Tony is a troll. Tony uses science every day, in every product, not to mention the very computer and internet he uses to troll the rest of us, and the very antibiotics, anti-polio/ measles/ mumps, dentistry, anaesthetics, etc. that has saved teeth, lives & limbs of family & friends. Har de har, Tony, you're a smart guy. http://io9.com/5927315/hubble-has-spotted-an-ancient-galaxy-that-shouldnt-exist

32 Nearby Stars

A spatial representation of every star within 14 light-years of the Solar System in orthographic projection. There are 32 stars in this region, including the Sun. The stars are colored according to the spectral type, which may not reflect the actual color. Please see this Wikipedia article for the listing of stars.
A strange, glowing green cloud of gas that has mystified astronomers since its discovery in 2007 has been studied by Hubble. The cloud of gas is lit up by the bright light of a nearby quasar, and shows signs of ongoing star formation. One of the strangest space objects ever seen is being scrutinised by the penetrating vision of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. A mysterious, glowing green blob of gas is floating in space near a spiral galaxy. http://www.spacetelescope.org/news/heic1102/

Hubble zooms in on a space oddity | Press Releases

http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2012/44/ November 1, 2012: Solar systems with life-bearing planets may be rare if they are dependent on the presence of asteroid belts of just the right mass, according to a study by Rebecca Martin, a NASA Sagan Fellow from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and astronomer Mario Livio of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Md. They suggest that the size and location of an asteroid belt, shaped by the evolution of the Sun's protoplanetary disk and by the gravitational influence of a nearby giant Jupiter-like planet, may determine whether complex life will evolve on an Earth-like planet. The findings will appear today in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters (published by Oxford University Press). See the rest: <p style="text-align:right;color:#A8A8A8"></p>

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured the farthest-ever view into the universe, a photo that reveals thousands of galaxies billions of light-years away. The picture, called eXtreme Deep Field, or XDF, combines 10 years of Hubble telescope views of one patch of sky. Only the accumulated light gathered over so many observation sessions can reveal such distant objects, some of which are one ten-billionth the brightness that the human eye can see. http://www.space.com/17755-farthest-universe-view-hubble-space-telescope.html

Hubble Telescope Reveals Deepest View of Universe Ever

Space Science

Ever wanted X-ray specs or super-human vision? Chromoscope lets you explore our Galaxy (the Milky Way) and the distant Universe in a range of wavelengths from gamma-rays to the longest radio waves. Change the wavelength using the slider in the top right of the screen and explore space using your mouse. For more information we have a quick video tour or you can read more on our blog .

When Galaxies Collide! It sounds like an early science fiction novel. However, analysis of Hubble measurements shows that our own Milky Way galaxy is moving toward a head-on collision with our nearest neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy (also known as M31). The collision will start in about four billion years, and over the following three billion years the two spiral galaxies will coalesce into a large elliptical galaxy. Based on this data, NASA has produced a video of the upcoming collision. The story begins and ends with Hubble. http://www.gizmag.com/hubble-milky-way-andromeda-galaxy-collision/22926/

This collection by Analytic Graphics Inc. shows real-time (updated every 30 seconds) positions of 13,000 satellites around the Earth. The positions come from a government-sponsored database which shows all satellites. You get the idea that our near-earth space is getting kind of cluttered don't you? Read about space debris . Read more about this collection in the GEB post . Please note: It may take 30-60 seconds to load in all of the satellites, depending on your connection speed. http://www.gearthblog.com/satellites.html

Total Solar Eclipse 2012 photos, near Mount Carbine, Queensland, Australia

November 14, Queensland, Australia Homepage Astrophotos Australia 2012 photos Purchase Photos ! Total Solar Eclipse of November 14, 2012, as seen from a hilltop about 20 miles west of the Outback town of Mount Carbine, Queensland, along the Mulligan Highway (Peninsula Development Road), a road only paved in recent years. Heading inland to get away from coastal showers and clouds which were promising to interfere with the viewing, we drove some 150 miles into the outback to find a good spot the day before and settled upon a remote hillside, up along a dirt track that pulled away from the main road. The location was about 40 miles inland, and 67 miles from Cairns, as the crow flies. About 20 other cars camped out here as well under very dark skies.
