International Workshop on Sign Language Translation and Avatar Technology (SLTAT) Location The workshop will be at The Queen Mother Building of the School of Computing, University of Dundee. It is the building number 26 on the campus map. Overview Recent research in the use of 3D virtual human characters, or avatars, to animate sign language promises to provide increased accessibility for deaf people via the Internet on a range of computing devices. In addition, avatars support sign linguistics research, providing a potential target for translation from spoken and other sign languages, and shedding light on human factors of sign language usage.
A highly successful international workshop was held in Berlin in January 2011, bringing together a number of workers in the field. The workshop will focus on three main topics: symbolic translation of sign language, animation of sign language using avatars, and usability evaluation of practical translation and animation systems. The format of the workshop will encourage discussion and collaboration between researchers. Submission. SGA2010. Gesture in Human-Computer Interaction. Welcome! A note to visitors of this website: The international gesture workshops are interdisciplinary events for those researching gesture-based communication and wishing to meet and exchange ideas across disciplines. A focus of these events is a shared interest in using gesture and sign language in human-computer interaction. The 1996 gesture workshop in York, UK, organized by Philip Harling and Alistair Edwards is considered the starting event.
From 19 - 21 June, 2013 the Tilburg Centre for Cognition and Communication (TiCC) hosted a combined meeting of the 10th International Gesture Workshop (GW) and the 3rd Gesture and Speech in Interaction (GESPIN) conference at Tilburg, The Netherlands, with over 100 delegates from 15 countries participating. This website is kept as an archival reference and portal about the workshop series and their proceedings. The seventh international conference on Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC) is organised by ELRA in cooperation with a wide range of international associations and organisations. In 12 years – the first LREC was held in Granada in 1998 – LREC has become the major event on Language Resources (LRs) and Evaluation for Human Language Technologies (HLT). The aim of LREC is to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art, explore new R&D directions and emerging trends, exchange information regarding LRs and their applications, evaluation methodologies and tools, ongoing and planned activities, industrial uses and needs, requirements coming from the e-society, both with respect to policy issues and to technological and organisational ones. Special Highlight: Contribute to building the LREC2010 Map! LREC2010 recognises that time is ripe to launch an important initiative, the LREC2010 Map of Language Resources, Technologies and Evaluation.
