Lies of the Sea Shepherd and Paul Watson Paul Watson is founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and seems to have found an effective tool in recruiting naïve followers and spreading the word about the nature of his organization's missions --- he lies. Here are just a handful of examples: Speaking to a collision on January 6, 2010 between a Japanese whaling vessel and the Sea Shepherd vessel Ady Gil: "The Ady Gil, a Sea Shepherd vessel, it's a fast patrol boat, was sitting still in the water when the Shonan Maru #2 came by, deliberately turned into it, rammed it, cut it in half, sunk it and destroyed it. Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Sea Shepherd Conservation Society The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is a non-profit, marine conservation organization based in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington in the United States.[1] Sea Shepherd uses direct action tactics to protect marine life. The organization was founded in 1977 under the name Earth Force Society by Paul Watson, a former member of Greenpeace, after a dispute with that organization over what Watson saw as its lack of more aggressive intervention.[2] The group has a strong focus on public relations to spread its message via the media. In 2008, Animal Planet began filming the weekly series Whale Wars based on the group's encounters with the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean, a development which brought the group much publicity.
Whale Wars : How Sea Shepherd Works Whale Wars : How Sea Shepherd Works When Paul Watson says that he and other members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society risk their lives to save whales, he isn't joking. Every winter, the Sea Shepherd staff and crew set sail to the treacherous Southern Ocean to stop Japanese whalers from catching and killing nature's largest mammals. At that extreme latitude, the winds blow harder and faster than anywhere else on the planet. The icy waters surrounding Antarctica can send a person into hypothermic shock in a matter of minutes. Furthermore, if something goes wrong in that remote expanse of sea and glacier, help is a far cry away.
