5/9/18: Companies Have Aha! Moment: Bullies Don’t Make the Best Managers. Untitled. 12/21/18: Live Nation’s Heather Parry Put on Leave Amid Verbal Abuse Claims. Live Nation Entertainment has placed production chief Heather Parry on a leave of absence in response to a Variety investigation into allegations of verbally abusive behavior and offensive language. The move comes more than six months after 10 employees filed HR complaints, according to multiple sources interviewed by Variety over the past four months.

The complaints apparently went nowhere until Friday, as Live Nation prepared an official response to this story. Parry, who is an executive producer of “A Star Is Born” and produced documentaries with Lady Gaga and Sean “Diddy” Combs, has operated the film and TV production arm of Live Nation Entertainment since December 2015. “At Live Nation we pride ourselves on having an open, accessible and inclusive culture,” a Live Nation spokesman said in a statement. Live Nation’s initial response to employee allegations was much different. “The entity exists with her,” Live Nation president Joe Berchtold said on the recording.

11/22/18: Bullies, work violence raise risk of heart attack, study says. No one likes domineering, bullying coworkers, or threatening situations at work — especially when those situations lead to violence. But could those toxic workplaces actually cause heart attacks? A new study finds that workplace bullying and violence victims have a higher risk of coming down with heart problems, including heart attacks, heart disease and strokes. That doesn’t necessarily mean bullying (or even violent) work situations directly cause cardiovascular problems — but the study does show a “robust” association between bullying and those heart-related issues, the authors said in a news release.

Still, a cause-and-effect link is very possible. Published this week in the European Heart Journal, the study analyzed nearly 80,000 adult workers in Sweden and Denmark who participated in three long-term studies. Bullied workers had a 59 percent higher risk of cardiovascular disease, and victims of violence or threats of violence had a 25 percent higher risk, researchers said. 1/11/18: Workplace Bullying Affects Nearly Half of US Workers. 10/21/16: Note to Law Firm Bullies: Your Managing Partner is Afraid of You. Credit: wavebreakmedia/Shutterstock.com Big Law rainmakers enjoy some well-known privileges. The cash. The prestige. Maybe even some free weekends. But there is another, less-heralded aspect of the job: You can be a jerk. That’s one takeaway from a survey released Friday by industry experts Patrick McKenna and David Parnell, who polled 124 law firm leaders and found that nearly all of them (93 percent) reported “bullying” at their firms. Who are these bullies?

One in four firm leaders said they were ignoring offenders altogether, despite 70 percent of respondents recognizing that keeping partners in line is the responsibility of managing partners. Are managing partners too-easily intimidated? “It’s frankly uncomfortable. The problem, McKenna and Parnell said, is that nobody is coming for the bad boys. McKenna said the idea for the survey came from a seminar for first-time managing partners he has taught for more than five years at The University of Chicago, entitled “First 100 Days.” Find-A-Lawyer - NELA Exchange. NELA is a national professional organization of attorneys who represent employees in employment law cases. Founded in 1985, the purpose of the organization is to advance employee rights and serves lawyers who advocate for equality and justice in the American workplace. Membership in NELA is open to any lawyer who specializes in employment law on behalf of employees.

NELA does not operate a “lawyer referral service.” We do not screen lawyers for ability or background, and therefore this service should not be considered a “recommendation.” Rather, we are simply trying to provide a public service by helping individuals such as you find the legal assistance they need to resolve their employment problems. We strongly urge you to spend some time in your search for an attorney, and to choose the one who is right for you.
