I cannot possibly imagine a scenario where driving a car would do this to a brake rotor. this A situation where an entire face of a brake rotor would wear away, yet the other side still a whole lot of iron left seems far fetched. My guess is that the front face of this rotor was intentionally machined ("turned") until the face was completely worn away.
