I read at least 25 pages of a book per day which usually turns in to 40-60 books per year. I’ve written a few books myself, and plan to write more. But this list is not about me, it’s really about us as an education community. What are we reading? This list is a start. If you are wondering what book to read next, this may or may not help you decide!

The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires Paperback The Dot By Peter H. IV. Reading Rockets. Finding Your Element Audiobook | Ken Robinson, Lou Aronica. Would you consider the audio edition of Finding Your Element to be better than the print version?

I'm not sure. This is the first time that I have felt the need for the printed version. Unfornately, as of date, the book is only available in hard back. What other book might you compare Finding Your Element to and why? This book has many parallels to many spiritual teachings, from which the author occasionally quotes, but it is your choice as to whether you see finding your element a spiritual jouney or merely a way of finding the right career path for yourself or a child. Which scene was your favorite? All the exercises are valuable tools and I loved the personal stories of how some people found their element.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember? What makes you happy? Any additional comments? Online Speed Reading tools and software. Simply start by clicking on the Play button on the left. Reading is that one activity that we do every day but we don't really practice. Most people learn the basics of reading in kindergarten and never graduate to the next levels. You are probably using the same basic rudimental tools and techniques that you learned when you were 6. The average American person reads at an average speed of 180 to 240 words per minute and has done so since he was 16 years old. Does it make sense that we hit our best performance at age 16 and that we don't improve much after that? Keep in mind less than 10% read at 400 words per minute and less than 1% faster than 600.

Have you ever wished you could take one of those costly speed reading courses? The problem with those courses is that you have to keep practicing those techniques until they become second nature. That's the goal of this site. We are here to keep you focused and to help you improve your speed reading everyday. What is sub-vocalization? Spelling Connections. Nik's QuickShout: Find Easy to Read Text for Lower Levels.

I sometimes wonder why companies continue developing search engines when Google's dominance seems so complete, but every now and then I spot one that has a nice twist and that's the case with Twurdy. Twurdy is actually based on Google, but it analyses Google results for readability, so it can help you to find more lower level texts for learners without you having to read through every result from Google to see if it's simple enough.

Just type in the topic of the text you need and click on your Twurdy type. You have a choice of three different Twurdy types. The differences are mainly speed (how fast you want your results) vs complexity (how thoroughly you want the results analysed) I would recommend choosing Twurdy with Pop as this will analyse the number of word on the page, length of sentences, number of syllables per word and also the popularity of the words in the text. Getting more accurate results will save you time in the long run and even using Twurdy Pop isn't so slow. Nik Peachey. Linguistadores | Practice Languages. CruxLight. I've been a fan of SpellingCity.com for quite some time now and I was fascinated when I heard they had produced a free app.

For those of you who don't know about SpellingCity, the website enables learners or teachers to enter a word list and then automatically generate a range of interactive multimedia activities based around the words. The site automatically adds audio recordings of the words and example sentences to the activities it generates. There is a great range of activities that students can do within the site and they can generate certificates for their teacher or parent to prove they have done their homework. The app is in many ways very similar to the site.

Spelling TestMe - In the activity students have to spell out the words from the word list. If they got any of the words wrong they can go to the 'Teach ME' activity which spells the word for them using audio and text and gives them an example sentence containing the word.
