Nouvel onglet. Abandoned Factory Library Greenhouse. Yesterday I enjoyed a behind the scenes look at the Biblioteca Vasconcelos’ greenhouse and it is amazing.

Sitting adjacent to the library it is connected via the library’s garden. There’s talk of turning it into a reading room with wireless access. ! Here are some full color views of this amazing and unique library space. Architecture ronde - Roll it - Le carnet de Jimidi.

Westmount Public Library - Peter Rose + Partners. Westmount, Quebec, Canada Built in 1899, the Westmount Public Library is the oldest public library in Quebec and one of the oldest in Canada.

Westmount Public Library - Peter Rose + Partners

The library is the most used public resource in the city of Westmount, but it had become too outdated and cramped to remain the center of the city’s cultural life. The Office of Peter Rose was retained to restore the building to its original grandeur and to add 25,000 square feet of new space to accommodate expanded services, growing collections, and user spaces. The constraints of a small building site required that an earlier obsolete addition be razed and that all elements of the new building be precisely inserted into the existing complex. Located between the original library of 1899 and the Children’s Library of 1911, the new entry faces Sherbrooke Street which is the city’s main thoroughfare.

The architecture of the new facility compliments but does not replicate the original buildings. Project Data Location. Www.grenoble.archi.fr/pdf/concours/la-cabane-de-lecture.pdf. Chinese Design. Wuhan based architects, AA-Lab, have completed a small project with local schoolchildren.

Chinese Design

The experimental project invloved 36 children and their parents over 3 months to build a city for children. The young architects from AA-lab allowed the children to sketch out their ideas and lead the design of the project. It was built out of bamboo and the inverted pyramid support covers just 9m2, yet creates 90m2 floor space above. Each child has their own house in the sky. City in the sky was a response to the growing number of young architects in China who only know how to design with steel and concrete.
