SMTP vs SMPP Back to Blog November 1st, 2007 by Jared Reitzin While the title of this may look like a techie article, if you are a marketer sending SMS messages it is important to understand the two methods used to drive this technology, SMPP and SMTP. Both SMTP and SMPP are protocols for sending messages. SMTP stands for ”Simple Mail Transfer Protocol” and was first published in August of 1982 as the primary means to send email messages (which is still used today).
