IA-mix christopher rau by christopher rau. Rhythm Cycles. For our 13th episode we have label-boss and record collector Underground Paris with us.

Rhythm Cycles

In this podcast he brings us a nice little selection of some of his favourite records — from dutch film music passing over 68-style rock to 70′s soul music. Thank you so much for giving us this insight of your record collection. RC 13 — Underground Paris — 19.07.2011 by Rhythm Cycles Alright here we go, so as some of you know, I manage a Deep House label focused on the ‘early 90′s New Jersey’ vibe (that’s called My Love Is Underground). Besides that I have an interest into loads of different music styles and it’s been some years now that I started diggin into Rare Grooves, le’ts try to describe that by ‘any kind of good music made mostly in the 70′s’… The usual way after House is to focus on Disco, I like Disco but I’m not that crazy about it to be honest.

Most of the stuff I’m into is not danceable, can’t really play it in my sets in clubs, unfortunately. 01’05″ The St. Matthew Burton & Nick Lawson - Take Me Away (BLM Remix) CLIP by Fear of Flying Recordings. If the prospect of a new Tin Man record sets the butterflies in your stomach aflutter, then 2011 has been an extremely busy year for your belly.

LWE Podcast 78: Tin Man

Though a permanent fixture in discerning record bags, one of techno’s most distinctive voices has been only a fleeting presence in record shops and a virtual nonentity on the club circuit. This ultimate drifter, however, seems to be settling into some kind of limelight. Kicking off the year strong with the heavy-hitter “Nonneo” for Absurd’s Acid Test series, Tin Man shows no interest in letting up, with at least two more albums and tantalizing remixes slated for release. In advance of his appearance at The Bunker Unsound Edition in Brooklyn on April 9th, LWE checked in with the man behind the mask, Johannes Auvinen, to find out what the heck we did to deserve this sudden bounty, why he won’t be settling into a multi-release deal anytime soon, and what sounds and places inform his inimitable body of work. LWE Podcast 84: Public Lover.

Towards the end of 2010 an EP called Musique D’Hiver Pour L’Été, dripping with intricate, rhythmic fragility was released on the Thesongsays label.

LWE Podcast 84: Public Lover

It was by Public Lover and was immediately recognizable as containing the signature sounds of Bruno Pronsato together with further flourishes and vocals by Ninca Leece, who had turned up on the label earlier that year with Feed Me Rainbows. That release by Leece, containing a remix by Public Lover was the first public outing for the musicians, who happened to also be a real life couple.

With both Pronsato (née Steven Ford) and Leece coming from more traditional band backgrounds, there was an immediate shared love of music worlds apart from the electronic realm that both now inhabit. Their productions so far have been rich with sweetly abstract melodies and a sense of transparency by including outtakes in some of their tracks.

It’s an intimate look at the working relationship of the duo, which also plays a big part of their live sets. 01. LWE Podcast 90: Ada. Photo by Katja Ruge Coming from a contemporary, pop vocalist background, Michaela Dippel’s entry into electronic music was not the easiest. Not only did the artist who would become known as Ada have to drop the support of several band members to collaborate with on music, she needed to push herself beyond the regimented confines of the traditional pop song structure, where ideas wrap themselves up within neat, four minute bundles. Forging a strong friendship with the owners of the Areal label in the early 2000′s, she began to produce for the label in 2002, quickly making her name synonymous with the label’s minimal tech house output.

Although her records at times seemed to move at will over a broad spectrum of techno and its affiliate genres, the one thing underpinning Ada’s work has been her keen ear for eking out memorable melodies from unlikely sources. This has seen her forge a strong body of work spanning nearly ten years, two albums and over a dozen single releases. Louche Music - Christopher Rau - Podcast. Made Like a Tree mlat29: Mikkel Metal mlat05: Vakula

October 10th, 2009] - "Ukrainian house music," by one of the 2000's more foremost analog poets. What does the name “Vakula” mean (or refer to), and why have you chosen it as your alias? One could say that Vakula is the national hero of Ukraine. It’s a character from a Nikolay Vasilievich Gogol book [Night Before Christmas] (a Russian and Ukrainian classic). I chose this alias because of the feelings I have toward traditional Ukrainian literature. You’ve mentioned before that the Ukraine can be an oppressive place. During my first visit to Europe I saw how people lived and I wanted to see what the quality of life was like in my Father Land. When I was 18 and lived in Konotop, I had no fear to go to Moscow.

Do you look inward to your own cultural roots (for example, Ukrainian traditional art/ideology) for inspiration when you produce something artistic? Yes, I do look inward to my roots. Is music a profession for you, or is it more of a hobby? 8hnfhe9iin.mp3 (Objet audio/mpeg) V.SAGAT Podcast by V_Sagat. Bodytonic Podcast 064 : Lowtec. The German DJ/producer, real name Gunnar Wendel, has been behind some of the most curious and invigorating house and techno records of the past four years, first coming to our attention with his rugged, syrup-slow contribution to part three of Workshop’s 12″ series. His Aqueous Haze (The World Disappeared Into An) EP followed soon after, and its B-side ’578′ was given a new lease of life this year when Omar-S remixed it and released two versions on his FXHE label.

It’s testament to the Wendel’s versatility and worth as a producer that he’s in not just with the serious heads from Berlin and Detroit, but those from London as well. A Kassem Mosse remix is forthcoming on Joy Orbison’s Doldrums label, and he recently released two tracks, including the grotty beatdown stomper ‘We Speak To Those, on Nonplus Records, the imprint operated by d’n'b emigres Instra:mental and home also to releases by ASC, Skream, dBridge and Actress. RA Podcast: RA.266 Planningtorock

Planningtorock is the nom de plume of classically trained violinist turned experimental electronic singer/songwriter Janine Rostron. Born in Bolton, northern England, Rostron departed to Berlin a decade ago, which is where she put out her first, self-released record in 2004 and remains to this day. 2006's Have It All LP fully introduced her brand of warped electronic pop through Chicks On Speed Records, while its follow-up, W, dropped earlier this summer on DFA, with Rostron exploring affected sax, strings and voice to "thrilling" ends.

Made Like a Tree mlat49: DJ Yoav B

June 29, 2011] - House vibes from an Israeli educator. In general how do you feel about the worldwide "music climate" these days? Do you think exciting stuff is being made and that people are more or less willing to try out interesting things? I don't think that there is something new in music or art as we know it in general since the mid 90's, and I'm quite positive that there will not be in the future.
