It has been rightly said that necessity is the mother of invention. A need encourages creative thoughts and efforts to meet the need. Similarly, compact housing has encouraged designers to create single piece furniture that could be transformed to various forms as per the requirement. Multiplo, a modular furniture piece from Italian designers HeyTeam forms a sofa, a table, a chair and a type of conversation pit.

Multiplo forms a complete bedroom suite for making life easy for people who live in little spaces. Style and functionality have been hyped up by its adaptability to fit easily in compact apartments. The stylish furniture can be easily altered to a cozy bed at night, a chair while studying, a table to keep stuff and a chit chat pit when friends come over. Shifting it from one form to another is also quite easy and can be done with some easy moves. Now compact housing won’t hamper your social circle and you won’t have to compromise anymore with the style statement for your house. Moon « Jessica Arosenius. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, there was a little alien called Moon. Moon lived on a small and cold planet, but everyone who lived there had very warm hearts. Whenever they met new friends, they would hug them and share the warmth. Moon really liked to meet new and different friends to play with; his favorite game was peek-a-boo. One day he decided to fly off in his space-ship and look for friends on other planets.

First he landed on a planet where all the creatures were very angry. Moon thought to himself that if he stayed there too long he would get angry too, so he continued his journey. Next he came to a planet where all the creatures were constantly farting. This time he landed on earth, and when he looked around, he saw all kinds of people, some were happy, some were sad, some were farting and some were glad. When you meet him, hug him tight and you will feel the warmth he’ll give you. -A collaboration with Maria Marcovic Om Jessica Arosenius. Lin Yu-Nung's Inside Out Lamp Invites Playful People to Draw All Over It in Milan.

Remember when your parents scolded you for scribbling on the furniture? You won’t have that problem with Lin Yu-Nung‘s playful ‘Inside Out Lamp’, which actually encourages kids (and adults) to draw all over it. On display at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair, the lamp is wrapped in a polycarbonate sheet that can be covered with artwork and then erased to start anew! Image © Lin Yu-Nung The Inside Out Lamp is an innovative approach to incorporating play while keeping the aesthetic qualities of both adult and kids’ furniture. A polycarbonate sheet creates the lamp shade where you can draw on both the inside and outside surfaces. Whenever you feel the next burst of playful creativity just wipe it clean and start over again. Tilting the lamp foot allows for interaction and play while sitting on the floor. The lamp is Lin Yu-Nung’s contribution to the explorative project ‘Play in Progress’ where ageless play is examined.

Denis Drouet’s colorful ‘Order in Chaos’ table aims to encourage play between children and adults. Children can hide under the table (as they love to do) and pull the strings, which creates a pattern on the table’s surface above. Drouet showcased his project at the Milan Furniture Fair as part of HDK‘s Play in Progress exhibition, which was based on the idea that play is a fundamental human activity that is vital to creativity. + Play in Progress + Milan Furniture Fair Coverage on Inhabitat.

Swedish Students Showcase Designs for Children at 'Play In Progress' During Milan Design Week. Play is fundamental to a child's development, but what happens when they don't have access to proper playgrounds or stimulating environments? Students from the HDK master program Child Culture Design created an exhibit to explore new ways of bringing play into everyday objects to help foster imagination and creativity. Dubbed "Play In Progress", the exhibit was one of our favorites at the Salone Mobile. See all the highlights ahead! Designed by Jessica Arosenius for both adults and children to use together, the Block.210 is a cool coffee-table with a surface packed full of building blocks. Johanna Larsson‘s cool table features transparent color plates that can be arranged and rearranged to create different tabletop scenes that push imaginative thinking. At first look of Hide||show appears to be nothing special, but just put a kid in front of one of these and you’ll realize that there is definitely something more to this cabinet.
