Unfortunately, Joseph Nicéphore Niepce died a few years later in 1933. But two years later, Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre managed to get an image rich in details by exposing a sensitized plate to silver iodide and then exposing it to mercury vapours. Daguerre just created the Daguerreotype! The discovery was announced January 13, 1839. Louis Daguerre and Isidore Jacques Mande Niepce (son of Joseph Nicéphore Niepce) signed a contract with Alphonse Giroux, allowing him to sell the equipment and products necessary for the production of Daguerreotypes.
After 1840 a wave of daguerreian photographers were born and several Daguerrotypes were manufactured. Many daguerreotype studios appeared throughout the United States. With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday it reminded us that there is nothing quite like your mother’s cooking. The kitchen is such an important place while we all grow up – and OnOurTable new collection of wooden kitchen accessories treat it with the reverence it deserves.
OnOurTable was founded in 2012 as a place for those people with a passion for food, design and craft. It was created by Canadian designer Geoffrey Lilgen and his wife Cindy. They research, design, develop and make tactile and strikingly simple culinary ‘must-haves’ that are handcrafted from wood. Their new ‘Box Series’ collection is just gorgeous and – possibly a bit late – would make a perfect Mother’s Day gift. Thanks to the creative champions over at Design Milk for highlighting OnOurTable. Like this: Like Loading...

Pinhole camera Source Wikipedia A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture – effectively a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through this single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box. The human eye in bright light acts similarly, as do cameras using small apertures. Up to a certain point, the smaller the hole, the sharper the image, but the dimmer the projected image. Because a pinhole camera requires a lengthy exposure, its shutter may be manually operated, as with a flap made of light-proof material to cover and uncover the pinhole. A common use of the pinhole camera is to capture the movement of the sun over a long period of time. The image may be projected onto a translucent screen for real-time viewing (popular for observing solar eclipses; see also camera obscura), or can expose photographic film or a charge coupled device (CCD).

P.90 lensless wooden cameras now back in production | Kurt Mottweiler : Designer | Maker. Wood, brass and aluminum beautifully blend in the P.90 lensless camera. An inspiring, superior quality tool for the discerning photographer. All custom made brass and aluminum hardware compliment the unique curved shape of this 6 by 9 cm format camera. This front view of the camera reveals the visual elegance and simplicity of the design. The black anodized aluminum shutter can be seen in the center of the P.90’s front panel. At first sight it seemed to me a sort of Leonardo da Vinci’s project : Elitism – The Third Eye A hybrid construction technique utilizes curved, cross-laminations of ropey figured Cherry wood to form the curved front and back panels of this design.
Sure, it looks like a speaker cabinet, or mysterious piece of nautical equipment, but what you’re looking at is actually a pinhole camera from Kurt Mottweiller Studios : Gizmodo The brass film advance knob designed specifically for this camera series can be seen at the top left position. Additional details: Wooden pinhole camera has looks to show. A creation of Kurt Mottweiller Studios, the P90 is a lensless medium format camera handmade from various types of wood. It can capture 90 degree panoramas on a 6×9 film, while its curved surface ensures the film remains equally brightened throughout.

In the Star Wars universe, Lightsabers are hand-built as part of their wielders’ training, and each one is as unique as the person who made it. Photographer Matt Abelson seems to have the same idea about cameras: he builds high-quality one-of-a-kind pinhole cameras based on his own designs. The Hyperscope (shown above) is one of his creations.
It’s a cylindrical can camera that takes medium-format roll film, and is crafted out of chunks of aluminum. The Hyperscope being crafted out of aluminum Each roll of 120 film produces four 6x17cm panoramic photographs; the film is wrapped around inside the camera in ~300-degrees, giving each photo a ~150-degree angle of view. The shutter is triggered by a cable release that mounts to the side of the camera. The knob in the center of the top plate advances the film. To open up the back of the camera, one must depress a small button and push a thumb slider — the door is double-locked in order to prevent it from being accidentally opened. PINHOLE CAMERAS.
