These dream-like installations are assembled, and then photographed by Norwegian artist Rune Guneriussen. Just imagine being out for a walk in Norway’s countryside, turning a corner and discovering a magical forest of lamps, a tangle of chairs, or a river of books. Sadly, once the photograph is taken, Rune removes the installation, the only proof of it’s existence being these images… sort of like waking up from an amazing dream that you could have sworn was real. As an artist, I believe strongly that art itself should be questioning and bewildering as opposed to patronising and restricting. As opposed to the current fashion I do not want to dictate a way to the understanding of my art, but rather indicate a path to understanding a story. Rune Guneriussen’s site
The mind can create all kinds of strange scenarios when we are asleep. In this series entitled Surreal-ity , photographer Kylie Woon brings those mind-bending stories and dreamy scenes to life. Conveying all kinds of dramatic emotions, including loss, fear, anger, and restlessness, Woon creates self-portraits where she floats, flips, and flies across each frame in seemingly impossible arrangements. The artist says her life has always flip-flopped between being obsessed with the small things in life versus being able to see the bigger, grander picture. She compares her experiences to photography and the idea of being zoomed in and zoomed out. She says, "When I am zoomed in, everything in the universe is dark except for the inside of my head.
Great news today: we will start a series of showcases that are meant to make the jaws drop!
By Abby Wilcox 12 Feb 2012 @ 2:57 pm | Categorized: Art Crush , Live_Art> Every once in a while I stumble across something that pops off the screen, and today I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by (365) days of Tumblr – a Tumblr site by Canadian designer Aaron Christopher Judd. It’s a typography experiment, in which Judd has married a quote with an image, and posted on for every day of the year. The quotes are witty and sharp, and the images compelling. Enjoy our favorites!

This is one of the most anticipated annual photo contests .
“Luke, I am your (undead) father.” is likely what this freaky zombie-like version of Darth Vadar would mutter. Watercolour artist Wednesday Wolf has created these fabulous pieces for your viewing (and purchasing) pleasure. Freaky Mario and Luigi from the Mario Bothers along with the piraña plants and Yoshi made us chuckle, but the freakishly weird collection of Star Wars folk (including Chewie, Yoda and Darth) take the cake.
National Geographic is currently holding its annual photo contest , with the deadline for submissions coming up on November 30. For the past nine weeks, the society has been gathering and presenting galleries of submissions, encouraging readers to vote for them as well. National Geographic was kind enough to let me choose among its entries from 2011 for display here on In Focus. Gathered below are 45 images from the three categories of People, Places, and Nature, with captions written by the individual photographers. [ 45 photos ] Use j/k keys or ←/→ to navigate Choose:
