How to Find Out What's Costing You Money on Your Electric Bill

I have recently saved a significant amount by buying the Nest Thermostat and moitoring daily usage after it automatically setup our living schedule. Its quite an incredible device. As for me I am fortunate that our water heater is natural gas and I can take very long showers (20-30 mins) daily and this makes practically no dent in our monthly costs. We're considering one of these, but I'm not sure how well it would play with our house fan. Maybe I'm not thinking it through properly... We live in a low-humidity area, so when the temperature drops at night we open the windows and turn on the house fan. Installing the house fan took our electric bill during summer months down by about $80/month, btw. With all due respect, considering the energy usage that a "Last 20 years" water heater uses, you would just be better doing all your clothes in the heat of water that they call for.
