Filoli House and Garden Tours. Lucy Evans - The Baylands. Bounded by Mountain View and East Palo Alto, the 1,940-acre Baylands Preserve is one of the largest tracts of undisturbed marshland remaining in the San Francisco Bay. Fifteen miles of multi-use trails provide access to a unique mixture of tidal and fresh water habitats. Many consider this area to be one of the best bird watching areas on the west coast. The preserve has a substantial resident population of birds as well as being a major migratory stopover on the Pacific Flyway. Things To Do Include walking, running or biking on 15 miles of trails; bird watching; wind surfing and boating (non-motorized craft such as canoes, kayaks or small, hand-launched boats and sailboards).
Note: Smoking is prohibited in all Open Space nature preserves, including the Baylands, effective 10/9/2013. West Bay Model Railroad Association - Sharing the joys of model railroading on the San Francisco peninsula. CuriOdyssey. NASA Ames Research Center. Junior Museum and Zoo. Our mission is to engage a child's curiosity in science and nature.
The JMZ is a place where children and their caregivers come to explore, discover, create and play. Through hands-on science exhibits and a diverse community of live animals, your child's natural scientist will be nurtured. The Zoo is home to more than 50 species of animals—about 200 specimens in all—many of which are brought into classrooms as part of the Junior Museum & Zoo's science outreach program with local schools. Some of the animals include bobcats, raccoons, jungle bats, hedgehogs, ferrets, snakes, fresh water fish and invertebrates, birds, turtles and a giant tortoise! We offer a menagerie of science programs for schools and community groups, as well as classes, summer camps and birthday parties for families.
