OXFORD IS MY WORLD | Food. What we eat, and where it comes from, can have a great impact on the environment. Supermarkets tend to stock the same food all year round so it's easy to forget that most fresh food is seasonal and any food grown out of season uses much more energy to produce and will probably have to travel further.

Not only that but food you might expect to be produced locally; such as apples and lamb, may have literally travelled to end up in your shopping basket. In fact even produce from the UK can travel up to to be packaged and stored before hitting the supermarket shelves. This is why the most environmentally friendly action you can take when shopping for food is to from local suppliers. This way you can be helping both the local economy and the environment!

Headington, Oxford. B480 Cowley. Home. Teenager charged with manslaughter over David Cox death. Teenager admits killing Rose Hill father-of-six. Teenager admits killing Rose Hill father-of-six 9:30am Tuesday 8th February 2011 in News By Thom Airs David Cox A TEENAGER last night spent his first night in jail for killing father-of-six David Cox in Rose Hill. Jonathan Newton admitted a charge of manslaughter at Oxford Crown Court yesterday. The 17-year-old, who Judge Anthony King allowed the Oxford Mail to name because he will turn 18 next week, attacked Mr Cox, 56, on June 26.

Mr Cox, of Asquith Road, was found unconscious in a grassy area off Ashhurst Way, just yards from his home, at about 2.20am. The public gallery was packed with more than 30 members of Mr Cox’s family to hear the teenager’s plea. After the hearing, Mr Cox’s sister Sandra Davies, 55, of Spencer Crescent, Rose Hill, said: “We went for David because he can’t defend himself now. “We are all really happy he (Newton) has pleaded guilty.

“We have been waiting for something to happen since last June, and this helps a little bit. “We were really pleased with the outcome. Tensions boil over as teen jailed for 36months for killing Rose Hill dad of six David Cox. Tensions boil over as teen jailed for 36months for killing Rose Hill dad of six David Cox 9:10am Tuesday 1st March 2011 in News By Thom Airs A FATHER-of-six died after a single punch triggered a fatal haemorrhage. David Cox, 56, suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage after being struck between the chin and neck by teenager Jonathan Newton, who was jailed for three years yesterday. Mr Cox died in the John Radcliffe Hospital about 12 hours after the 2am attack in Spencer Crescent, Rose Hill, Oxford, on June 26 last year.

Matthew Walsh, prosecuting, said both men were in the street shortly before 2am when their paths crossed. He said: “What then precisely happened isn’t known.” He said Newton’s older brother, Ryan, became agressive towards Mr Cox and asked: “What did you say to my brother?” Mr Walsh said the younger brother said “leave him alone, let him be”, but then launched into a “totally unjustified attack”.

Mr Cox was one and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit. “The court system stinks. My bike's been nicked in Oxford! My bike was nicked from outside my house (Yarnton OX5) last weekend. I have reported it stolen to the police but nothing has been found so far. The bike was bought from halfords less than 1 year ago for £400 and I really don’t want to have to replace it. There’s light brackets on the front and back and a pump holder on the frame.

No lights or pumps were attached at the time. There’s no scratches or damage to the bike. My email - kita16 <at> gmail <dot> com or call- (Oxford) 421323. Thank you!! I had my Teman Single Speed Road Bike stolen from St Aldates Church on the 14th September am. My bike has been stolen from the Redbridge Park and Ride, was locked up and someone just bolt cut the lock. I found a good quality GT mountain bike a few days ago in Southfield Road, presumably stolen by a junky who ran out of steam halfway up the hill. Last night, my pride and joy was taken from outside my house in Canal Street, Jericho. Please please please email briangrffths@googlemail.com if you see it! Web hosting for oxford activism.
