3. Verdienmodellen van kranten en startups. In de voorgaande twee hoofdstukken hebben we gekeken naar een aantal vooraanstaande kranten en startups. Daarbij lag de focus vooral op de vraag wat ze op dit moment digitaal doen. In dit hoofdstuk willen we nader ingaan op de vraag welke verdienmodellen de verschillende organisaties op dit moment gebruiken en kijken, mede aan de hand van een onderzoek van het Stimuleringsfonds van de Pers, of deze modellen ook daadwerkelijk werken.
Als eerste zullen we zo proberen om verschillende modellen te onderscheiden, zodat duidelijk is wat we kunnen tegenkomen. Vervolgens zullen we eerst de modellen van een aantal kranten belichten: Wat doen zij nu? Wat zijn de meest recente oplagecijfers? Iedere publicatie zal zijn eigen verdienmodel hebben, aangepast aan de behoeften van de redactie en de behoeften van de lezer. Subscription-only: deze vorm zie je weinig.
