Social shopping is a rapidly developing area and Squeeqly , launching today at The Next Web Conference Startup Rally , aims to take a chunk of the market with a plugin that allows e-commerce sites to harness their customers’ social networks to find new customers and find out more about their customers. The plugin enables users to engage conversations around retailers’ products with their friends on Facebook and Twitter. Users can write and publish reviews on social networks and maintain wishlists.
Co-founder Steve Jang talks me through how the app was born and current updates. Jang gives me a demo of the app in action. SoundTracking -the app that allows you to share the soundtrack to your life- is killing it in the tech rounds right now; Since its launch at SXSW this year, its had 100K downloads from Apple’s app store, been named app of the month by Billboard magazine, app of the day by Gizmodo and last week app of the week by Apple’s app store. Co-founder Steve Jang is a good friend of The Next Web as he spoke at our conference two years ago, in the video he tells me about how he came up with the idea of the app which is like a cross between Instagram for music or Shazam with a social sharing option.
Chances are, you've got more than one iDevice hanging around, and it can be annoying to sync them one by one. The duaLink USB splitter lets you plug two iOS gadgets into one USB ports and sync them at the same time. Every time you get a new album on iTunes, you have to sync your iPod, sync your iPhone, sync your iPad, and continue with however many iDevices you have strewn about your house.
The big updates keep on coming…Today, Evernote for Mac (version 2.1) gets a bunch of great new features, including social sharing, audio recording and search speed improvements.
If you’re app addicted like we are, then you’re never sated in your desire to find the newest and the best. While we (ahem) feel we do an admirable job here at TNW Apps of bringing you the best and brightest, a new iOS app from AppsMarketing called AppFreeway is looking to take a slightly different approach. Instead of just highlighting free or only showing paid apps. AppsFreeway works with developers to highlight paid apps and give them away. Yes, there are other similar services, but we focused on securing quality apps to give away for free as well as delivering stats to developers to track the success of their campaigns. In addition, we focused on creating an app that isn’t cluttered with dozens of other apps.
With $5 million in funding from Benchmark Capital, webpage sharing service Bo.lt launches today after about a year in private beta. Like a “Bit.ly on steroids,” the service lets you paste any URL into its copy engine or bookmarklet, creating a duplicate of the page on its servers. Once copied, Bo.lt lets you quickly edit the page itself. You can change the text, edit and delete images and text and change links — either through the Bo.lt visual editor or its HTML editor. You can then share the page on Twitter or Facebook through its customizable URL and let other people edit or make changes which are tracked.
Know how when you're looking for someone's email address at their firm, you find it and it seems so obvious? "Bob Smith, email@example.com, of course !" Peepmail checks out domains to find the address of people whose names you know, and saves you the random Googling. Peepmail asks for a name and a domain, or a company name if you don't know exactly what that person's email domain might be. It certainly doesn't work for every domain out there, but it's good at drilling down when it does happen to know how to find somebody. The site's also a little slow in testing this morning, so be patient (especially after, well, this link).
Whether it’s choosing the perfect couch or trying to buy enough paint, getting an accurate idea of the size and shape of your space usually involves far too much time messing with measuring tape, much less finding the thing in the first place. Stress no more with the amazing MagicPlan app for iPhone 4 or iPod Touch. Simply point and click, and the app creates an interactive floor plan of your place so that the next time you spot a great rug or the perfect oops paint, there’s no doubt about grabbing that great deal. Full story at iTunes .
iOS: Free app Easy Alarms fixes all of iOS' stock alarm app's annoyances, letting you skip alarms, pick your snooze time, and more with just one tap. iOS' stock alarm app isn't bad , per se, but it sure isn't the easiest to use. Easy Alarms may not be as out there as some of the apps in our mobile alarm Hive Five , but if you aren't looking for something that tracks your sleep patterns, it's probably the perfect replacement for the stock alarm app. It gives you just a few extra options that are essential to anyone that relies on alarms. For example, you can pick how long an alarm snoozes when you snooze it, or tell it to skip the next instance of that alarm without turning it off entirely (and forgetting to turn it back on later). Easy Alarm also has a timer function, so you can turn on any timer you use often (like a timer for your laundry) with one swipe.
Tout for iOS helps people share real time video status updates. Videos taken can be shared with friends and followers at social networks like Facebook and Twitter. To even have a sneak peek into the app, you will need a Tout account. If you don’t have one, it can be created from the app. The sign up form opens up in Mobile Safari and is a bit messed up.
We launched several new features last week, including pins, groups, and share buttons. 1. Pins
Just yesterday I was talking about consuming quality content on an elegant app. Spout for iOS devices takes reading news to the next level. Spout animates the jeepers out of the news and social feeds and is visually stunning. The effects, while being awesome, does not distract you from reading the content.
Bluum is a free Chrome web application that launched today. It’s a timely fit for our ongoing productivity week here at The Next Web. The hot pink extension is perfect for the intellectually curious. It’s an easy way to find out everything on the Internet related to a word of text. Simply highlight the word and click the pink and purple heart button and the Blum window slides in from the right to display related wiki, pictures, video, real time news, tweets and more.
