The thumping drum and bass intro to first track “Get Along” is an instant indication that we are in for a rockier sound than Myles’ more acoustic and country sounding first release, Year of the Tiger. Lyrically, Get Along is resonant of the crazy times the world has been living in and an anthemic call for everyone to come together and ‘get along’. A theme that seems consistent throughout the album. Myles cements himself as the guitar virtuoso many are just discovering him to be with the short, grinding solo towards the end of the song. Production wise, I feel the solo could be given more space above the background instruments.

Kennedy’s debut was the acoustic affair Year of the Tiger, a great collection of songs that showed off his songwriting skills in a stripped back showcase.
For his second album, he’s taken the fundamentals of that songwriting and added full band arrangements, giving the album a different feel to his first collection and keeping its own space between Alter Bridge and Slash. Significantly, he gets to real show off his lead guitar chops across the album’s 11 tracks. The opener ‘Get Along’ is a cracker, a social commentary on the 1991 LA Riots written prior to the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. The best thing here is the title track, ‘The Ides of March’. 1. Building upon the excitement from the announcement of his sophomore album The Ides Of March last month, MYLES KENNEDY is releasing its title track to the masses. “The Ides Of March” is the longest song on the album, clocking in at 7:39 and showcases Kennedy and cohorts’ musicianship – longtime friend and drummer Zia Uddin and bassist/manager Tim Tournier. The band stretch out musically as Kennedy sings an ominous warning, “beware the ides of March.” MYLES KENNEDY says about “The Ides Of March”:“Written quickly one night after having a few drinks, it was an attempt, to sum up, what so many of us felt during the beginning of the pandemic. We were bored, frustrated and self-medicating to avoid going stir crazy,” explains Kennedy. “What I like about the narrative is it pushes the idea that if everything is going to hell, at least try and do it in a celebratory fashion.”
