DEVILDRIVER Reveals Surreal Music Video for Anthemic New Single “Wishing” Album Out This Friday, October 2

Today, DEVILDRIVER continues to bestow fans with a steady stream of content leading up to the album’s impending release – following up on standout singles “Keep Away From Me”, “Iona” and “Nest Of Vipers” with their most heart-wrenchingly earnest offering to date, “Wishing”. As Dealing With Demons I explores the purging of a different demon per track, “Wishing” illustrates the theme of loss – more specifically, wishing a loved one would return. The clean vocals sung on “Wishing” mark frontman Dez Fafara’s first in DEVILDRIVER history, harking back to his Goth roots. Influences of Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy and more can be heard in Dez’s brooding vocal delivery on the verses, while a heavy chorus punches with raw emotion as he screams, “wishing you were with me right now!” The Mosh Zone #139 - Mike of DevilDriver. This week we chat with Mike of DevilDriver about his discovering his passion for heavy music, how he joined the band, pressure and expectations that come with being in the band, creatively adjusting to the bands musical output, stories behind those iconic albums, their approach and writing process behind their latest double album, pushing themselves creatively and much more!!

DevilDriver: 'Wishing' As DevilDriver gear up to release the first half of their double-album, Dealing With Demons I on October 2, the band have just dropped a killer new single called 'Wishing', which you can check out below.

DevilDriver: 'Wishing'

The new jam sees vocalist Dez Fafara try his hand at clean vocals, which definitely caught us by surprise, but are a welcome addition to the band's sound nonetheless. You can watch the video below: In an interview with Maniacs last year, frontman Dez Fafara had this to say on the double release: "...if anyone approaches you about doing a double record, don't do it. It's the fuckin' most work I've ever put into something in my life. Devildriver – Dealing With Demons (2020) Dealing With Demons is the newest offering by Devildriver.

Devildriver – Dealing With Demons (2020)

With a bit of a weak start with Stay Away From Me, their first single, (personally, I didn’t care for this track) – it doesn’t work well as an opener. The 2nd song Vengeance Is Clear though, THIS is a fine welcome back after the Driver’s woeful Country cover album (though some liked it). Dealing With Demons is a point the band is back on course. Vengeance Is Clear is heavy enough to please, not overly fast, but a good follow up to Stay Away. Nest Of Vipers has a clean intro, then it hooks with a solo, drums and a heavy riff. Iona, the one about the black roses, yes, that’s pretty much the majority of the lyrics. Wishing – well, surprisingly, Dez sings clear on this track, making it one of the more unique offerings. Witches, this song just starts up right away, and has a bit of magic. It’s now time for the title track, Dealing With Demons. DevilDriver – Dealing With Demons I (Album Review)

DevilDriver – Dealing With Demons I (Album Review)

DevilDriver: Dealing With Demons Vol.1. Pent up anger let fly free again Much has been laid out in the media in the lead up to the release of this album as well as its accompanying second volume (due with in the next 12 months), being a ‘final purge’ of the personal darkness that drives this band’s music, and, more to the point, the lyrics of its talismanic frontman.

DevilDriver: Dealing With Demons Vol.1

The tension builds slowly for opener Keep Away From Me as clean guitars dominate the low and heavy groove of the track. This is one of the heaviest and slower groove driven tracks DevilDriver has put out in sometime. Vengeance is Clear is quick to follow up in a more traditional and in-your-face style they have built their musical reputation on, even throughout the line-up changes over time. The purging that has been spoken about so much in the lead up to the release of this album really becomes apparent on Nest of Vipers and Iona. The biggest musical twist comes at the mid point.

Devil Driver. Dealing with Demons by Devil Driver Most people should know Devil Driver or at least heard a track or two.

Devil Driver

They are a 5 piece band from the USA. Their music can be best described as metalcore mixed up with groove metal, with other influences from other genres. I got hooked to their music during my teen years when they released their self-titled album called “Devil Driver” back in 2002. “I could care less” was their big hit song at the time and definitely still stuck with me to this day. Dealing with Demons has turned out somewhat interesting. The screamo vocals and cheesy pleb-like lyrics are the only things that is holding me back as a fan. The production of the album is good, the guitar tone is rich enough, and everything sounds on point.

ALBUM REVIEW: Devildriver – Dealing With Demons I

It’s the first half of a double album with the second half to be released at a later date but here we get a sizable taste of what’s to come with 10 brand new songs that sees Dez Fafara and the gang brandish a new found power. Dez has stated several times in recent interviews including our very own chat that this album is the cleaning of an old slate so to speak, a way to purge the things that have been haunting him over the years which have slowly seeped into his lyrics over the course of his career, “This is the chapter where I lay it all out on a double record” to take a quote from our interview but going through this album song by song, it’s pretty clear he means business. But more than that, there’s a strong turn in the evolution of not just Devildriver as a band but Dez himself on the vocals, which we will get to as we put the spotlight on each track. So frustrating! Let me first state that I have no axe to grind here, either with the band Devildriver or it’s leader Dez Fafara (beyond being absolutely horrified by that country album he recorded a little while back!). As a reviewer I try to remain positive throughout, but, seriously, Dez and his bros make it difficult at times to keep sunnyside up on this album! Maybe the alarm bells started ringing when I read that this was the first part of a separately-released double album… I don’t know about you, but Twin Turbos always springs to mind, ya know?
