A busted leg, a year plus recovering and two years driving a Chicago taxicab came between Casey Meehan’s Violet and his new project Jitney. Kind faces, cruel faces, always going somewhere, were the wildflower seeds planted in the cracked leather backseat that grew into these songs. 6pm to 6am, 6 nights becoming dawns each week, with chauffeur license 86-300 taped to the dash. All those charcoal mornings, and the half-heard stories couched in the cacophony of city-din became this collection of songs that jump and buzz like missed connections. I got a couple rides from him and must admit the city is safer with him behind the microphone than behind the wheel. Bass on Fin by David Vandervelde. Bass on Butterfly Knife by Nick Meiers.

Ok, I don’t want to sound like a total record nerd, but I’m going to have to in order to relay this tale, which is likely mundane to everyone but

Oakland metal band High On Fire just released its sixth album, De Vermis Mysteriis , via eOne Music . “Kings Of Days” was recorded with producer and Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou in Salem, MA, and the sludgy track showcases the band’s signature brawny stoner-metal style, propelled by singer/guitarist Matt Pike’s guttural vocals and searing riffs. The track is seven minutes long, which is more than enough time to convince you that it’s awesome.DISCODUST
following up on the still lasting success of 'reckless with your love' (that we posted over a year ago) and their collaboration with friendly fires plus countless remixes for the likes of munk , runaway , cfcf , voltage and sunday girl , toronto's currently hottest collective azari & iii are back with their new single 'indigo'. originally supposed to be released on the resurrected trax records which never came through, it's out on turbo now instead. 'indigo' stays true to their classic house vibe but succeeds to sound fresh nevertheless, incorporating the same kind of slightly detuned chords we hear in a lot of borderline dubstep tracks from the united kingdom these days.Slutty Fringe 2.0
Being a ‘buzz’ act is actually fairly easy, name me an influential alt music title and with a little work I could probably fairly easily design a band created to appeal to every one of their particular little fetishes, whether it’s the correct use of pointless symbols in the name, the ‘on trend’ referencing of sugary 90s RnB as a major influence, or some other tiresome peccadillo. Anyway being consistently brilliant year after year after year after year is a slightly trickier proposition, and as i’ve never managed even a consecutive day of brilliance I’ll happily genuflect to those who have. People like Ed DMX for instance, who is probably responsible for more footage of vinyl in my collection than any other producer.Ah and the boy returns. Jai Paul drops “Jasmine” upon the internet, a slowburner of a tune that is propelled by a pedaling bassline. Jai Paul’s whispery vocals floats over the mid-tempo groove along with some funky envelope filtered guitar. OK XL Recordings glad to see all the $$$ you made off Adele was funneled to Mr. Jai Paul.

Dude, this whole leaving town for the tropics thing is getting out of control. Just as I got a gig for 2 weeks in the Carribean, Lil' Louis has to all come out of retirement and shit. Apparently he's doing a small tour to promote a new book, "A Man's Diary", and CD, entitled " Two Sides to Every Story " which is written by Louis from the perspective "depicting the joy, love, and heartache" of dating Lil' Louis. Sounds awesome. Since I never got to see him the first time around, I'm pretty excited for the opportunity. I will be missing the show next Saturday at my new favorite NY Club, Santos Party House , but luckily there's a 2nd NY appearance scheduled on Tuesday, regrettably at S.O.B.s , one of my least favorite spots.

Gridface: Frankie Knuckles Playlists
Robert Williams encouraged Frankie Knuckles to move from New York to Chicago in 1977 to headline his new club, the Warehouse, at 206 S. Jefferson Street. Knuckles became famous for breaking obscurities alongside the latest New York club cuts.Et Musique Pour Tous
Yeah yeah yeah, how you like me now?” Well Willy, I liked you a lot before but now that Sinden has gotten a hold of you, I think I’m love. But seriously, check out Willy Moon, he’s bringing back a lot of vintage flavors in a way many die hard purist will be proud of. I try to have a little fun now, I stay with my ear to the drum now…” Ok so this one is for all those who like to move because when this drops at 1:23?!If you thought about it too much, it became too easy to slip over the line into a bright and comforting paranoia. After all, it would be easy for a catastrophe—so easy—to strike right now. Right now, he thought, willing something to happen….no, nothing.
