The two mainstays of the group were two friends, Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards. The distinctive erratic guitar licks of Nile Rogers were perfectly counterbalanced by the unique rhythmic basslines of Bernard Edwards. Bernard Edwards, 31st October 1952, Greenville, North Carolina, U.S.A. d. 18th April 1996, Tokyo, Japan. Bernard Edwards was born in Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina. Bernard first met Nile Rodgers in 1970. Nile rodgers and bernard edwards Moving to New York, the pair began playing in the clubs and bars, Bernard on bass and Nile on guitar. Nile Gregory Rodgers, 19th September 1952, New York, U.S.A. Nile Rodgers is a highly talented singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer. His and Bernard Edwards work with the group Chic, laid the foundations of late Seventies disco music. The song 'Good Times' formed the rhythmic bassline for many rap artists, including T-Ski Valley, for 'Catch The Beat', and the Sugarhill Gang, on 'Rapper's Delight'. Chic. Chic est un groupe de disco/funk américain fondé en 1976 par le guitariste Nile Rodgers et le bassiste Bernard Edwards.

Le groupe se compose de trois autres membres qui sont Tony Thompson, Luci Martin, et Alfa Anderson. Au départ, il s’en trouvait un quatrième, Norma Jean Wright. L’apport de Chic, d’un point de vue musical, a été très important, dans le sens où le groupe, dans sa manière de jouer de la basse et de la guitare, a révolutionné la dance music. Des groupes aussi divers les uns des autres ont puisé leur inspiration dans leur apport, allant de Queen en passant par Change et Wham !. Sans compter qu’à cela s’ajoute les nombreuses reprises de basses faites par les rappeurs ou DJs.

Il rencontre un succès mondial à la fin des années 1970 avec des titres comme Le Freak et Good Times, le jeu combiné des deux membres fondateurs étant d'une grande influence sur la musique de l'époque.

He later became notable in his own right. After a 1989 birthday party where Rodgers, Edwards, Paul Shaffer, and Anton Fig played old Chic songs, Rodgers and Edwards organized a reunion of the old band. They recorded new material—- a single, "Chic Mystique" (remixed by Masters at Work) and subsequent album Chic-Ism, both of which charted—- and played live all over the world, to great audience and critical acclaim. Thompson died of kidney cancer on November 12, 2003 at age 48. Chic released four new albums during the 2000s (3 compilations, 1 live album): The Very Best of Chic, Good Times: The Very Best of the Hits & the Remixes, A Night in Amsterdam, and The Definitive Groove Collection.
