An American Spring is in the Air. - Advertisement - I had the privilege of moderating (a glorified term for an on-air switchboard operator) an InterOccupy call a couple of nights ago. Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers, two of the movement's best known organizers, both very active in Occupy Washington DC, answered questions about "Occupy Phase 2," the directions that the movement should take in the Spring. The main point was that "Phase 2" should involve setting up alternate economic structures designed to weaken the "pillars of power. " An illustration of this is setting up local alternatives to the banking system.

During "Phase 2," non-violent protest, the hallmark of "Phase 1," was said to be important to continue. It was noted that non-violence is even more important now, amid signs that those in power may be worried that some of the pillars that keep them in power, such as local police forces, may be sympathetic to the Occupy movement. InterOccupy | Connecting Occupations. The Radical Challenge Global Online Town Hall - Occupy VisionOccupy Vision. I recently posted an open letter to anarchists, socialists, Marxists, and radicals of every kind, which can be found here . I catalogued the responses I received, which totaled around 23,000 words. I’ve edited this down significantly and organized the responses into a question and answer format. This is the first crowd-sourced article / online global town hall of many to come on occupyvision.com . I hope it sheds some light on the Occupy movement’s thought processes about these issues. The main questions discussed are: · Is there anything about capitalism that’s worth keeping?

· Should the economy be regulated? · Does change have to be gradual? · If we pursue reform, should the first step should be getting money out of politics and ending corporate personhood? · Are radicals and reformists necessarily opposed? Is there anything about capitalism that’s worth keeping? However, I consider myself a reformist, rather than an anarchist or a Marxist or a socialist. Capitalism has many problems. Occupytalk.org.
