Game Of Thrones Director In Talks To Direct Thor 2 For Marvel. It late June it was first announced that Kenneth Branagh would not be returning to direct a sequel to Marvel Studio's Thor.
In one sense it was surprising, as Branagh had repeatedly talked about his love of the character from when he was a child and seemed to have a lot of passion for it, but in another sense it was totally understandable as Branagh isn't exactly a "sequel" kind of guy. Since then, however, there has been plenty of curiosity as to who would be the person taking the helm on Thor 2 and now it seems the studio has found their man.
Variety has learned that Brian Kirk has entered negotiations to serve at the helm of the superhero sequel. The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as the feature film will only be Kirk's second, the first being the Matthew Macfadyen-starring Middletown in 2006. Most of Kirk's experience is on the small screen, but his resume is quite impressive in that department. THOR 2 to be Directed by Alan Taylor! Marvel Studios has officially hired Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor as the director of Thor 2 replacing the previously fired director Patty Jenkins.
Taylor has also worked on TV series such as Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, Mad Men, and Nurse Jackie. Taylor is a solid director that has worked on some pretty big TV series, and I think he is a solid choice to direct the epic sequel to Thor. The fact that he's worked on Game of Thrones is a huge selling point, and if Marvel hired him he must have had some pretty good ideas on how to tackle the story for Thor 2. As we previously reported, the first draft of the script was written by Don Payne, and there's a great short list of new writers that Marvel is looking to hire for the film that includes John Collee (Happy Feet and Master and Commander: Far Side of the World), Robert Rodat (Falling Skies and wrote Saving Private Ryan), and Roger Avary, who co-wrote Pulp Fiction with Quentin Tarantino.
Patty Jenkins Officially Confirmed To Direct Thor 2. Well, Marvel have officially gone outside the box in their choice to replace Kenneth Branagh on Thor 2 as Monster director Patty Jenkins signs on.
Here is the press release in full.. Marvel Studios announced today that Patty Jenkins will direct THOR 2, which will be released in theatres on Friday, November 15, 2013. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman will return to star in the film along with Tom Hiddleston. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce the sequel to this summer’s blockbuster THOR, which has grossed over $448 million worldwide to date. Patty Jenkins previously directed MONSTER starring Charlize Theron, who won an Academy Award® for her performance in the film.
Fans seemed to have a bit of a mixed reaction when the rumor of Jenkins' involvement hit. THOR 2 No Longer Being Directed by Patty Jenkins. Back in September it was officially announced that Monster director Patty Jenkins would be directing Marvel's Thor 2.
Today it's being reported that the director is now walking away from the project and won't be bringing the hammer wielding God back to the big screen. Apparently she left the project over creative differences, but Deadline was quick to point out that, "she’ll probably end up working on one of these superhero films, but perhaps not on a sequel. " Who knows what film that will be, but if they want to still work with her, we know it wasn't a bitter break-up. I was never really on board with Jenkins directing this film anyway, she just didn't seem to have the experience to tell the epic fantasy tale of Thor. Hopefully Marvel will be able to pull someone on board who is more suited for the job. Thor co-writer Don Payne is currently writing the script, and it will be awesome to see where the next adventure of Thor takes us!
No Thor 2 for Kenneth Branagh. ‘Thor 2′ To Be Scripted By Don Payne. THOR 2 to Get Rewrite From SAVING PRIVATE RYAN Scribe. Here's a quick little news update on the production of Marvel's Thor 2.
Marvel Studios has hired Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat to take a crack at rewriting the script for Thor 2, which is being directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones). The movie is set to go into production this year, and Disney plans to release it in the summer of 2013. There aren't many details on this highly anticipated comic book sequel yet, but we know it will dive more into the mythology of the nine realms. They definitely got a great screenwriter to work on the script.
