Dr. Frank Lipman: New Year's Resolutions: 20 Ways To Add Mo. When I qualified as a Doctor at 25 years old, I thought I knew everything there was to know about health and medicine. By the age of 30, I realized my medical training was limited and I didn't really know much about health and wellness. So I went on a journey of discovery to expand my horizons and studied acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Functional medicine, nutrition, yoga and Buddhism. By 50, I realized my life training was limited too as my daughter (a teenager at the time) was pointing out "how stupid" I was. And now that I am 55, I realize I have amassed a lot of knowledge but have so much more to learn. As I get older and hopefully wiser with every year, certain insights become clearer. 20 New Year Resolutions Ubuntu means what makes us human is the humanity we show each other.

LAS VEGAS, (AP, OSKAR GARCIA) -- Sin City is pinning its biggest bet ever -- $8.5 billion -- on a 67-acre, six-tower complex of striking hotels, gourmet restaurants, swank shops and a single casino that starts opening Tuesday in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. Many watching the high-stakes roll of the dice shudder at the thought that nearly 5,900 rooms in three hotels will be awaiting guests when CityCenter's crown jewel -- the 4,004-room Aria Resort & Casino -- opens Dec. 16.

That will increase Las Vegas' already saturated inventory by more than 4 percent at a time when fewer visitors are coming and room prices have fallen 25 percent from last year. CityCenter's debut might pull rates even lower, but state leaders hope the complex leads Nevada out of two years of economic misery that has hit the state with record unemployment, foreclosures and bankruptcies. Check out a slideshow of photos from the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas' CityCenter: "We're in a 12-round fight. "What do we have here? Yet for any project, whether it is assembling a sales proposal in response to a Request For Proposals (RFP), to the collaboration and coordination necessary to build an aircraft carrier, or any size or style of collaboration in between, there are several questions to consider when it comes to modern day collaboration, what many are calling Enterprise 2.0, or for those with a longer history in business collaboration, Knowledge Management 2.0. In Search of a Community That Takes ' As someone who aspires to be a new media expert, I don’t actually use many popular social media services. I dislike Facebook, I rarely tweet, and before winning the News Challenge I had never written a blog post. It would seem like I’m downright un-hip; yet I’m a young technologist who has been communicating online for more than half of my life. Why the disparity? Simple: I care more about community than myself. I’m sure you’ve heard people talk about the ego-centric nature of today’s social media, which tend to focus on one-to-one and one-to-many communication.

We all want to inform, and form, our communities using today’s digital tools, but how is this possible if the proper tools don’t exist? Charting Digital Media I’ll try to simplify things by visualizing the current state of social media in terms of “focus” and “scope.” Focus (Individual vs. Scope (Niche vs. This setup creates a framework for thinking about online services. The web has become the default mechanism for people to “search” for the value and knowledge they seek. But the net, as we know it today, doesn’t make finding relevant and relative people and things efficient.

The web is a BIG “content” library. Content attracts people whom have an affinity to the context of the content as it relates to what people want to “know“. What people know is a reflection of their desires to share or gain intellectual capital. People socialize around content which is produced by people. Popular content may reflect creative perspectives, innovation, new ideas and insights. People socialize around content which again is produced by people. Now imagine being able to access a “Knowledge Inventory” that indexed people who have the right combination of “knowledge assets” that could be used to solve whatever problem people or organizations seek to solve. He goes over the 7 basic principles of KM: * knowledge is a voluntary act – cannot be compelled* we only know what we know when we need to know it. We are pattern-based intelligences not information processors. People will know things in the right context but not independently of that context. Now Dave moves onto – thinking differently and ways we think about our organisations. Systems thinking 1980s: dominant metaphor being engineering. Now moving into third based on complexity and cognition. 3 ways of thinking: deductive (scientific mgt, control of function); inductive (systems thinking, control of information); abductive (complexity and cognition, cognitive augmenation).

If you are a marketer or a person working in technology sector, you must have come across the phrase “Big Data” numerous times.

Around 2011, McKinsey coined the term “Big Data” but the concept would not be new to anyone who has been present in the internet era. While everybody is talking about Big Data, we are also trying to understand what it means for our businesses. For a business in healthcare, it might mean predicting an epidemics even before it might occur; for a business in manufacturing, it might help improve the productivity; for a retail business, it might help in telling us beforehand which product would do well even before they are produced.

Those of us engaged in actively encouraging the emergence of a new mindset, which sees the unity of all life and encourages humanity to live in balance with the natural world, often write about the importance of “being connected to Mother Earth.” It’s a positive and noble goal but, until personally experienced, can just be another set of empty words describing a lofty sentiment. I never expected my true appreciation of this concept to occur within the sterile confines of the concrete jungle known as the Shanghai 2010 Expo in China, but it did. There, under the traditional thatch of a Samoan fale and within the bright blue warehouse structure called the South Pacific Pavilion, I watched a contemporary and very brave woman participate in an ancient, indigenous ritual that connected her experientially and personally to Mother Earth in a way that provided a glimpse into the very meaning and mystery of being alive.
