The Coney Island Polar Bear Club continued its New Year's tradition with a swim in the Atlantic Ocean. The club gathered at the Boardwalk near Stillwell Avenue Saturday morning for its annual dip. Though temperatures were higher than usual for New Year's Day, the Polar Bears said it the water was still plenty cold and invigorating. "The air is warm, but the water is cold, so that's perfect. It's a nice blue sky. We get a good crowd, a lot of energy. It's a wonderful start for the new year," said a swimmer. "The water is very, very cold. "The water was freezing. The swim benefited Camp Sunshine, an organization from Maine that helps children with life-threatening illnesses.
