Six innovative mobile apps to keep your eye on [LeWeb]

At the LeWeb conference in Paris, fast-becoming one of the hottest web tickets outside the US, we got a bit more insight into them: 1. Uber – your private driver Uber is the taxi of the future, all governed via slick iPhone and Android apps. It’s a company that has received US$32-million in funding and attracted investors that include Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Goldman Sachs. Via Uber’s app you can see where the cars are on a map in relation to you, and at a click of a button get an Uber car to pick you up and take you to a destination. The co-founder and CEO of Uber, Travis Kalanick, says that this is a premium travel product. 2. 3. Morin spoke about how much harder it was to build products in the mobile app environment. 4. Eric Schmidt: Google Is Buying One Company A Week.

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt just took the stage at the Le Web conference to chat about Android, the search giant’s expansion and more.

Eric Schmidt: Google Is Buying One Company A Week

When he was asked about why the search engine hadn’t acquired any French companies, Schmidt jokingly commented on stage that Google was now buying around one company day. That’s clearly a lot of companies to purchase even for a company with deep pockets like Google. So our intrepid reporter Alexia Tsotsis ran backstage to confirm this, where Schmidt told her on the record that Google was actually acquiring around one company per week. “But why do you never announce them?” She asked him. Hello. Remember people When you meet someone, you can enter their information manually, scan their business card, or instantly connect to a group of people using the Hello Connect feature Make meetings memorable Hello automatically brings in related information about the people you meet from your calendar, Evernote account, online networks, and more.

Evernote Launches Two New iPhone Apps: ‘Food’ And ‘Hello’

The first one is called Food, and is designed to help people easily save and ‘relive’ all of their favorite meals and food experiences. The second app is dubbed Hello and basically wants it easier for users to remember people after meeting them, as well as recording thoughts about and experiences with those people. Evernote Food (download link) The Food app is essentially giving users ways to document dishes and drinks they’ve had, build a catalog of custom recipes, review restaurants and record food experiences in their neighborhood or abroad, and even manage their diets.

It also comes with handy sharing options, of course. The application lets people capture all aspects of a meal through pictures, location, text and photo captions. Evernote Hello (download link) The Hello app is a tad more sophisticated. From the pitch: Uber Gets $32M From Menlo Ventures, Jeff Bezos And Goldman Sachs. Just 18 months into operations, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick announced on stage at Le Web that the car service company has closed $32 million in Series B funding lead by Shervin Pishevar’s Menlo Ventures, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Goldman Sachs.

Following on will be existing investors Benchmark Capital and a who’s who of angel investors. With regards to this round’s valuation amount, Kalanick told me, “We sold very valuable shares.” The funding total can extend up to $39 million through a second tranche, Kalanick said, but Uber has only closed $32 million of that number. Three years ago Kalanick and co-founder Garrett Camp came up with the idea for Uber in Paris, so it is fitting that he would announce the new capital in the French capitol, “Uber is in part a French company,” he said onstage. Deezer plans to launch music service in 200 countries by June 2012 (but not in the US and Japan)

Deezer, which in a press release quite literally claims to have “invented music streaming” four years ago (who knew!)

, is planning to roll out its music streaming services all across the globe in the next few months to reach a total of 200 territories by June 2012. Not on the roadmap are the United States and Japan, because Deezer considers those countries uninteresting due to “market saturation and low growth forecasts”. Details of the startup’s ambitious, global roll-out plans were unveiled at the Le Web conference in Paris, where Deezer will later this week celebrate the launch with an exclusive performance by English music duo The Ting Tings.

Currently available in France, Belgium and the UK, Deezer says it will debut in a number of territories around the world every week starting the 8th of December. From the press release:
