T he drug war has failed. That’s the abbreviated conclusion of a report released today by an international commission studying drug policy. And if governments actually listen to the recommendations of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, resourceful entrepreneurs could find some high opportunities. The 19-member panel that offered its verdict on the fight against illegal drugs is no hippie operation. It's members include former U.N. chief Kofi Annan; entrepreneur Richard Branson; former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker; former Secretary of State George Schultz; and former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo. Branson funded the group, along with George Soros’ Open Society Foundation, the Instituto Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and the Centro Edelstein de Pesquisas Sociais in Brazil. http://www.portfolio.com/business-news/2011/06/02/global-commission-calls-drug-war-a-failure

http://cannabisactivistnetwork.com/ Richard Lee said he will relinquish ownership of his marijuana-related businesses, including Oaksterdam University, as he braces for a possible federal indictment on tax charges. "I think with my legal issues, it's the best thing," Lee said Friday. "I've been on the front lines for 20 years. I think I've done my duty and it's time for other people to take over." Lee is one of the nation's foremost medical marijuana advocates, leading the movement to tax and regulate the drug and bankrolling Prop. 19, the failed 2010 statewide ballot measure that would have legalized it.

Super High Me | Watch Free Documentary Online

Determined to find out the true effects of marijuana on the human body, stand-up comedian and former Stoner of the Year Doug Benson documents his experience avoiding pot for 30 days and then consuming massive amounts of the drug for 30 days. More than just an amusing story of one man’s quest to get super high, this documentary also examines the hotly contested debate over medical marijuana use. Although the film is inspired by a joke which was inspired by Super Size Me, don’t expect to see the same dramatic reactions. Morgan Spurlock’s documentary about the dangers of excessive unhealthy eating was shockingly unhealthy for the filmmaker. During the thirty days of only eating McDonalds Spurlock vomits, is drained of energy, and ultimately puts his own life in danger. http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/super-high-me/

Legalizing Marijuana With the hippie generation moving into the seat of power, many of the hard-line arguments for keeping marijuana on the same banned substance lists as heroine and cocaine are fading into the history books. The challenge all along for those wishing for outright legalization of pot has been that it doesn’t exactly fall into the “good for you” category, parents raising small kids are afraid of it, and it would remove a substantial income stream from the very powerful justice system. http://www.futuristspeaker.com/2009/12/2-trends-to-watch-in-2010-%e2%80%93-the-coming-legal-marijuana-era/
Dear Neighbor, August 20, 2009 I really think that now is an important time to stand up the global lifting of the prohibition of cannabis sativa [or marijuana, abbreviated CS in this letter]. Harvard Gazette: Study: Intelligence, cognition unaffected by heavy marijuana use

The new study of cognitive changes caused by heavy marijuana use has found no lasting effects 28 days after quitting. Following a month of abstinence, men and women who smoked pot at least 5,000 times in their lives performed just as well on psychological tests as people who used pot sparingly or not at all, according to a report in the latest edition of the Archives of General Psychiatry. That's the good news. The bad news, not included in the study, is that most heavy users admit that pot has had a negative effect on their physical and mental health as well their functioning on the job and socially.
http://highdeas.com/ We are only limited by what we can conceive of, by what we think it is possible to accomplish. That statement might sound like some wishy-washy statement Mom said to you at bedtime when you were 8, but I'm serious. Essentially the human mind is a projection engine. It takes what you know and have experienced, and allows you to project what may be possibile based on the information you already have.

Toke of the Town - Cannabis news, rumor and humor

Less than a week after federal agents raided cannabis training center Oaksterdam University, seizing property, marijuana plants, bank accounts, student records and computers, legendary founder Richard Lee has decided to quit the business. Lee, 49, who the SF Weekly 's Erin Sherbert calls "the most visible pot legalization advocate in the state," told John Hoeffel of the Los Angeles Times that after 20 years, he decided it's time for others to take over. He added that he's concerned he could be facing federal drug charges after Monday's raids of his university, his dispensary (Blue Sky Coffee Shop) and his home.

Hemp Is the Far Bigger Economic Issue Hiding Behind Legal Marijuana | I Love Weed

From Alternet.org If the upcoming pot legalization ballot in California were decided by hemp farmers like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, it would be no contest. For purely economic reasons, if you told the Constitutional Convention in 1787 that the nation they were founding would someday make hemp illegal, they would have laughed you out of the room. If California legalizes pot, it will save the state millions in avoided legal and imprisonment costs, while raising it millions in taxes. But with legal marijuana will come legal hemp. That will open up the Golden State to a multi-billion-dollar crop that has been a staple of human agriculture for thousands of years, and that could save the farms of thousands of American families.
Many Americans support legalization and many states already permit medical use.
