How to Knit The Moss Stitch, A Variation of the Seed Stitch. Every knitter should know the three most basic knitting stitches. There’s a garter stitch, which is knitting every stitch, every row, so the yarn bumps alternate which side of the fabric they’re on. Then there’s stockinette stitch, which is alternating rows of knit with rows of purls to keep those yarn bumps on the same side of the fabric with each stitch. Be sure to check out Craftsy’s FREE video tutorials on more than 70 knitting stitches! The third big one is seed stitch, where the yarn bumps alternate not on a row-by-row basis, but on a stitch-by-stitch basis. In pure seed stitch, the pattern on each row alternates one knit with one purl. If you know these three basics, you’ll be in good shape to conceptualize any knitting pattern or project you come across. The double moss stitch is basically an extension of seed stitch over two rows. Start with an even number of stitches. Rows 1 & 2: K1, p1 Rows 3 & 4: p1, k1.

Anyone who thinks Londoners aren’t excited about the Olympics should visit Howard Road, Walthamstow. I came across this knitted version of the Olympic Games, in what is a charming but utterly glamor-less East London neighborhood, after a tip off from the hilarious Facebook group, the Walthamstow Unofficial Tourist Board.

Nobody was in when I called, but the friendly neighbors tell me the woman in this house knits her own version of every major public event, and has only just taken away her knitted Diamond Jubilee. This is probably the cutest, most individual tribute to the Games I’ve yet come across anywhere – I just hope the brand police don’t pounce on it for violating their sponsors' exclusive logo rights. The Olympic pool must be pretty warm, as these swimmers seem to having a bit of a nap. No medals for tanning, as these pasty legs enter the Olympic diving pool. Have these Kenyan athletes clubbed together to block the path of the Polish runner behind?

Here we will show you the five most popular ways to cast on to knit your next project. Long-Tail Cast-On is used to create an even set of stretchy stitches. This is an easy cast to knit and pick up stitches from. And once you get the hang of it, it can be the fastest to cast on. You can explore more about the long-tail cast-on method here. Knit Cast-On (or Purl Cast-On) is used to form a nice firm edge using a knit or purl stitch.

Cable Cast-On is used when starting projects that have a rib or cable. Loop Cast-On (also known as the Backwards Loop Cast-On) can be used to start your project or to create stitches in the body of your work. Crochet Cast-On is used by taking a crochet hook to work to cast on. Charity Pattern - Twist & Twirl Layette (knit) Welcome to Love of Knitting. Alex's Cloth. Welcome! - Alan Dart. Tot Toppers.
