They were easy reading (not to say they were overly simplistic) and had a much more mature tone to them than most of the horse crap that's force feed to kids now a days. In fact I find this trend is abundant in basically everything aimed for kids these days in that we basically have 2 target demographics: Kids under 12 and everyone the fuck else. There isn't much aimed at kids from 16-17 anymore (because brand loyalty starts at around 11 and after wards it's too late) so we now have shows like Batman The Brave and the Bold instead of the Batman The Animated Series from the early 90s.
What Animorphs did was fill that gap with something that, as a teenager I could enjoy and relate to that wouldn't be too heavy for me to read and as an adult I could still appreciate and find interesting. You never read them, did you? I also wonder where that demographic went.

Said pre-order costumes actually sound pretty amusing -- it's a shame they're all spread out across different retailers at launch. If you were attempting to find casual gaming gold, you might well think about trying to create a game at the midpoint of Plants Vs. Zombies and Diner Dash. That’s pretty much what Black Market Games (created by a group formerly from Dark Water Games, they of Dogfighter) have done, with Dead Hungry Diner. A game in which two canny orphan twins realise the best way to thwart the zombie apocalypse is to feed them. In a restaurant. After zombies come vampires, angry zombies, and giant hulking Frankenstein-made monsters. I’ve never much enjoyed Diner Dash, firstly because it’s so humourless, and secondly because, screw the customers! It gets ever more complicated, with werewolves appearing, and refusing to be sat near vampires, demon hunters cursing your monstrous customers, and so on.
