http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/20/why-solutions-journalism-matters-too/ Fixes looks at solutions to social problems and why they work. This is a follow-up to last Friday’s column revisiting social change organizations that grew in 2011.

Tottenham riots: Data journalists and social scientists should join forces

In the wake of some of the worst riots in London in more than a decade, Ben Goldacre has said on Twitter: [blackbirdpie id="100156268534181888"] Yes, we’re now going to have to suffer through lots of ill-informed speculation from columnists. http://charman-anderson.com/2011/08/07/tottenham-riots-data-journalists-and-social-scientists-should-join-forces/

On the Post's site Jennifer Rubin first quotes the Weekly Standard , in a rushed item about the Norway horror: >>We don't know if al Qaeda was directly responsible for today's events, but in all likelihood the attack was launched by part of the jihadist hydra.

The Hack who has never Hacked

http://blogs.aljazeera.com/blog/europe/hack-who-has-never-hacked Journalists are largely unloved by the public. Survey after survey puts my chosen profession towards the bottom of the likeability scale, only estate agents are held in more distaste, and even that might be a close run thing now. In TV and the movies, the journalist is rarely the hero, and when he is (and it's more often a he) he is flawed and broken, ruined by the job and the demands it makes.

This post was originally published on the Meta-Activism Project About ten days before the events of January 25, the media was abuzz with writers and influential thinkers wondering if the Tunisian revolution was a Twitter revolution or not. The camps, as usual, were divided, with incessant criticism from cyber-skeptics and their tirades against cyber-utopians .

It was started by a tweet from @mirkolorenz which led up, 20 days later, to this piece which aims at inspiring media companies, showing new editorial and business opportunities. Journalists and media companies in general have had to answer a fundamental question ever since their traditional business model collapsed: What are we?
