Community Builder. Community Builder (CB) is the most popular and flexible social community networking solution for all versions of Joomla!
(3.2, 3.x and 2.5 with ACL support). For over 9 years now the 500,000 and growing Joomlapolis members have made CB the most widely used (over 2,500,000 public installs per Google) social networking solution. Projectfork. I rarely make a bad review and I did like PF 3.0 a lot more than PF 4.0 due to more flexibility.
I will review PF 4.0 in following title: Permissions: PF 4.0 has been divided to independent subcomponents such as Projects, Milestones, Tasks, etc... Permissions at each subcomponent is defined separately and independently from each other, this is not good especially when it comes to relations of whole project permissions related to other subcomponents (If Registered users have permissions of Create and Edit Own, then if someone creates a Project, then any other Registered user can add Milestones, Tasks and interfere with everything within that project, in other words you can not create a simple Project Management service unless you manually defined details of permissions for every project). Join Request and Add User: Again this was a great option PF 3.0, totally missing in PF 4.0.
K2. The powerful awarded content extension for Joomla!
With more than 1.2 million downloads so far (and counting!) ✔ WHAT IS K2? ======================== K2 provides an out-of-the box integrated solution featuring rich content forms for items (think of Joomla! Articles with additional fields for article images, videos, image galleries and attachments), nested-level categories, tags, comments, a system to extend the item base form with additional fields (similar to CCK for those acquainted with Drupal), a powerful plugin API to extend item, category and user forms, ACL, frontend editing, sub-templates & a lot more!
K2 extensions. Sigsiu.NET - Home. Home. I've been experimenting and using ZOO for over 2 months now so I can say I have a pretty good grasp on the system.
In my opinion out of all CCKs available for Joomla, ZOO is certainly the most elegant of all of them. It is intuitive, easy to use and once you get how the system works it's fun to build pages using the elements. Templating is pretty straight forward and overall development is fairly easy. From the presentation on Yootheme's homepage and the thorough documentation it's clear that a lot of care and attention went on the development. The problem with Zoo, and it is a major flaw for a CCK, is that once you get past the submission and the display of data on the front-end you dont really have much control over the data. Things get really bad once you take on account the experience of a front-end user. Let me give an example, let's say we have a business listing website and users can submit items from the front-end.
And that's where the problem lies. FLEXIcontent. Over the last year FC took a huge step forward.
It was always good and useful but now it really is brilliant and almost complete. Thank you for that shiny piece of work! Pros: + good documentation with tutorials + excellent support in the forum + very stable, almost no bugs and new known bugs are killed within hours + very good implemented, can handle a decent amount of content and still be speedy + very frequent updates and constant development + they listen to the user + easily extendible through custom fields + easily customisable through templates + this is a free extension!
Cons: - the carousel for the article presentation could need an update to be really responsive and offer some more options for the slide effects (for the presentation of Joomla core fields one can always use third party modules though!) Owner's reply Hello thank you for your review, just would like to comment on speed. Flexicontent extensions. If have tried to use Seblod many many times, started with the first releases and know 3.1.5.
But unfortunately the main issues were never solved. The well known issue of "missing template" has a new look, but instead of making the error more fancy, Seblod should have fixed it. The crux of Seblod is its implementation in Joomla! CMS. Instead of enhance the core items like articles, categories or users, or just live aside core items, Seblod is placed above them.
Just a choice of points which makes me hate Seblod: 1. But maybe the biggest point is: Seblod had enough time to evolve and become a solid CCK, but nothing happens. Owner's reply Sybrek, it seems you miss a lot of things. There is no "issue" about "missing template". 1. SEBLOD extensions.
