Girls Rock Camp is one of the awesome, replicable ideas we’ve profiled. I can’t wait until Hattie performs with them someday. (Photo via Flickr user emilyaugust) In the beginning of November I gave birth to my daughter Hattie.

http://www.visionsinaction.org/ Visions' Classic Volunteer Program Visions in Action would like to invite you to get involved with our work by volunteering abroad ! One of the most amazing places we have worked is in Uganda, where there is a wealth of beauty and culture to experience. The Uganda Classic Volunteer Program was started in 1991. Each year Visions houses three to eight volunteers in Kampala in a group house environment with volunteers from around the world. Our Uganda Country Coordinator eases volunteers into the Ugandan way of life during orientation and provides support for the duration of their service.

Volunteering and community engagement empower people to change the world from the grassroots up, especially when enabled by strong partnerships at every level. It has been 10 years since the International Year of Volunteers in 2001, and through a General Assembly Resolution , the United Nations called for this anniversary to be marked in 2011 across the planet. During the anniversary Year, the wide range of partners and stakeholders recognized the positive impacts of volunteering, facilitated people’s contributions to peace and the Millennium Development Goals through volunteering, built and reinforced volunteering networks, and promoted the values and impact of volunteering.
VSO's work revolves around six development goals, linked to the priorities of our partner agencies overseas, international development targets and our distinctive areas of expertise – for example, in education or working with grassroots groups. Each of our country programmes selects two or three goal areas to focus on. http://www.vsointernational.org/what-we-do/
