It covers the long struggle between Britain and France for control of what eventually became Canada. The game involves a deck-building mechanism which may be familiar to those people who have played another certain award winning card game. Each player starts with a small set of cards. Cards come in two general types, location cards and empire cards.
You can add an empire card to your discard pile simply by taking one as an action. Players take it in turns to perform two actions. The game ends if a player manages to capture his opponent’s capital city or he has managed to place all of his village or town pieces on the board. On 30 Nov 2007, I finally got to try the highly regarded and long out-of-print but recently reprinted Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage.
Most people only know the Hannibal played by Anthony Hopkins in the movie Silence of the Lambs (and the sequels and prequels). But Hannibal is also a famous Carthaginian general in history who fought many battles against the Romans, before Rome became the dominant power in the Mediterranean. Hannibal: Rome vs Carthage is a card-driven wargame, like Wilderness War (which I own since 2003 but still have not played). I can probably count this as the first pure card-driven wargame that I have played. Other card-driven wargames that I have played are Twilight Struggle (about Russia and USA trying to exert their influence around the globe during the Cold War), Hammer of the Scots and Crusader Rex. This feels a little odd to me that this was only the second Netrunner tournament there approximately eight months after the game came out and also in the same building that it was designed and play-tested in. There has been the “World’s”, but that was a more formal event if you will. There had been another one after the first data pack, but there wasn’t one in January. Android:Netrunner on OCTGN. Well the reason is that I was too busy coding improvements for it. I think it’s time to give my latest creation the usual treatment and announce it here. So Android:Netrunner is a new reimplementation of the Classic Netrunner, but given a really good polishing in the rules and art by Fantasy Flight Games. The game has not been released yet and it already seems like it’s going to be a runaway success!
