When Israeli Settlers Attack: A Report by Yousef Munayyer. The Zionist Story. The Israel Lobby (Marije Meerman, VPRO Backlight 2007) Israel Lobby" authors Steven Walt and John Mearsheimer. Al Jazeera: What role does AIPAC play in US elections?  The American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the most powerful pro-Israel lobby in the US, is holding its biggest annual conference yet with around 13,000 delegates in Washington.

Al Jazeera: What role does AIPAC play in US elections?

For all those bidding to become the next US president, it has become an essential campaign stop. The group has strong ties to the religious right and evangelical voters. And it is a very influential force in Washington politics. Demonstrators from the occupy movement held a small protest outside the event urging no war on Iran and no US tax dollars for Israel. On Sunday, Barack Obama, the US president, took to the stage and told the audience that Israel had never had a better friend in the White House.

BBC Bias: The Gaza Freedom Flotilla. Norman Finkelstein on the Origins of the Israel/Palestine Conflict. The law in these parts. The Law In These Parts - שלטון החוק. Can a modern democracy impose a prolonged military occupation on another people while retaining its core democratic values? Since Israel conquered the territories of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the 1967 war, the military has imposed thousands of orders and laws, established military courts, sentenced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, enabled half a million Israeli "settlers" to move to the Occupied Territories and developed a system of long-term jurisdiction by an occupying army that is unique in the entire world.

The men entrusted with creating this new legal framework were the members of Israel's military legal corps. Explores this unprecedented and little-known story through testimonies of the military legal professionals who were the architects of the system and helped run it in its formative years. The Law In These Parts is sponsored by: (Israel Producer) Former managing director and senior producer at Belfilms, Israel. Ultra Zionists - Louis Theroux - Part 1. Dispatches - Inside Britain's Israel Lobby. Lisa Hajjar: Israel/Palestine as a 21st Century Lawfare Laboratory (Dec, 2011) "Occupation 101" - Essential Viewing. I always struggle to know where to point people who just want a basic background on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

"Occupation 101" - Essential Viewing

I have reams and reams of books, websites, articles and such I can point them to, but they're either too complex, too over-simplified, too specialized, too de-personalized, assume too much knowledge, or otherwise don't really do the "101" job of explaining things with the right balance of providing sufficient information while not overwhelming. Well, I think I finally found a good one. An hour-and-a-half documentary, apparently around a year old, called Occupation 101. Click that link for the film's website and if you want to order DVDs (I'm going to have to order one). But somebody (for now at least) has also put it up on YouTube, broken up into 11 roughly 8 minute chunks. It is not an attempt to split the baby between Israelis and Palestinians.

Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Part 4: OCCUPATION 101 [full documentary] Peace, Propaganda, and The Promised Land. When Israelis in the occupied territories now claim that they have to defend themselves, they are defending themselves in the sense that any military occupier has to defend itself against the population they are crushing... You can't defend yourself when you're militarily occupying someone else's land. That's not defense. Call it what you like, it's not defense. Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites-oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others - work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported.
