Untitled. …and in the process also drums up an entirely new mobility concept for personal use says Adil Jal Darukhanawala after taking in the ground-breaking NT3 Concept. Tata Nano, Magic, Bajaj ULC and more are all in its crosshairs come 2012. Unbeknown to many, at this year’s Milan Motorcycle Show a couple of weeks ago, Italian bike major Piaggio took the wraps off a concept which it has been working on for a long time. Given that Piaggio came up with a threewheeled version of its Vespa scooter in the early 1950s, that theme was taken to both goods and passenger carrying variants. Interestingly, almost five decades on, these goods carriers and autorickshaws remain are pretty much the bedrock upon which go all the way back to the original Ape three-wheeler.

Renault Twizy. Presented in its definitive form at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, Renault Twizy was designed from the outset as an ultramobile all-electric two-seater vehicle (TWIN and EASY). Renault Twizy will appeal to busy, car-owning city dwellers seeking a second vehicle, as well as to younger drivers looking for a safe way to start driving with a vehicle that does not require a licence. Although its compact dimensions are likely to prompt comparisons with the world of scooters, Renault Twizy possesses all the fundamentals of a car: a chassis with four wheels, a steering wheel, pedals, and an enveloping body for two occupants sitting in tandem, one behind the other. Renault Twizy is a car of character with a resolutely modern design; open bodywork with sweeping lines, original (optional) gull wing doors, a windscreen and roof forming a large glazed area, as well as lights creating an original lighting signature.

Solar rickshaw by SolarLab. London-based research and design company SolarLab is developing a solar-powered rickshaw. The vehicle, which is due to be launched next year, will derive up to 75% of its power from photovoltaics mounted on its roof, and the rest from pedal power. Here's some info from SolarLab: As a London-based company, we understand the tangible effects of pollution and congestion in our city.

Our solar rickshaw will offer a radical transport solution for tourists and residents of any major metropolis. More importantly, our design is modular enabling easy conversion to load-bearing vehicles for inner city logistics and supply-chain requirements. We have a vision of reducing C02 emissions in London by up to 2 tons per rickshaw.
