Once again, the free iOS charts showed lots of turnover, with no repeats from last week. In addition to high profile releases from Adobe and Outfit7 , Apple released several new apps for the launch of iOS 5, the most popular of which are still dominating the free app charts. For once games didn’t prove to be the biggest draw, with a healthy mix of new utilities showing on the charts covering everything from shopping to bookmarks. New Titles on the iPhone Free Apps List AddictingGames – Nickelodeon’s gaming portal AddictingGames has come to iOS and swiftly risen to the top of the free app charts.

Top grossing applications from yesterday made their way into the top free iOS app charts today, with one breaching the top five on iPhone. Additionally, top free games from last week , such as Cracked Screen Prank (Free) , remained high on iPhone, but still left room for many new titles to rise within the chart’s top ten. As for iPad, the free list remains active (though not quite as much as the older iDevice) giving way to new games, browser apps, and digital magazines. New Titles Within Top iPhone Free Apps List ICEE Maker — A top grossing application from yesterday is now the top free iPhone app. In at #1 is the game of ICEE Maker which allows its users to create and decorate their own ICEE drinks choosing things such as lids, cups, and mixes.

Emerging Top Free Apps on iOS: Line Games, Lite Versions & Pranks Grow
Developers atop the free charts this week on the iPhone and iPad are proving mysterious. Many of the current top games have been created by mobile developers with little to no information on them. Many of them don’t even have an official website. Nevertheless, it is evidence of how quickly new and updated applications can grow within the free-to-play gaming and application market. Of the known developers, however, several are those that have been witnessed before, including more “line games” from Robert Szeleney, a third appearance of Cars 2 this week, anda second for NimbleBits.
The top free iOS app charts have shown a great deal of change in the past seven days with several new applications appearing within the top 10. Nevertheless, even those beyond these rankings proved to be extremely interesting, while those within showed quite the affinity for the classic games (be they analog or digital) of yesteryear. The top 10 iPhone apps again showed a great deal of fluctuation this week. Not all of the apps were particularly new, as many rose by going on sale and becoming free or receiving new content updates. We have to give praise to the new Hanging With Friends iPhone title which not only hit the #2 spots on this week’s top grossing and top paid iPhone apps lists, but also found its way to the top of the free list. It’s been no secret that many of the Facebook platform’s stars have had a hard time reaching the same level of dominance on iOS where mobile-focused companies like Rovio, Pocket Gems and Storm8 have flourished. But perhaps the 800-pound gorilla of the social gaming world, Zynga, is starting to get some things right. For example, at the beginning of the year, the San Francisco-based company’s poker app hovered around the 50s on the top grossing list. It was being trounced by Texas Poker from Siberian developer (yes, Siberia) Kamagames Ltd .
The free iOS app charts are never a let-down when it comes to discovering new up and coming applications. Most of the new appearances this week for both devices breached the top five spots, with a couple from the iPhone also rising on iPad. Games and customization apps dominate the iPhone with most being relatively new releases. As for iPad, television and film showed more growth, but hosted less new apps, and primarily gave rise to older ones hosting recent updates. New titles have breached the top grossing iOS apps charts. Though only one genuinely new iPhone title made it into the top ten, the majority of applications were actually release relatively recently. Games, like always, were very prominent on the iPhone.

While new applications have been rare on the other top iOS charts this week, the top free apps list for iPhone and iPad is alive and well with plenty of brand-new titles. Interestingly enough, most of the iPhone applications this week are very new, while the iPad tended to have many older, re-emerging apps. Released May 2nd, the application displays the top music charts from over 20 countries including singles, albums, and music videos. Like yesterday’s top paid iOS apps list, very few brand-new applications have appeared within the top grossing lists this week. Old and popular titles, such as Angry Birds, Tap Zoo, Tiny Wings, and others, continue to hold their top positions. In fact, Smurfs’ Village has risen again (to #8 on iPhone and #10 on iPad), partially due to a May 9th update adding new levels and items. The top grossing charts for both the iPhone and iPad were a bit tame this week. In looking for new and interesting applications to meander onto the top lists, there were very few that haven’t been seen before on other charts from this and last week . Nevertheless, there was a wide variety of monetization methods used between each title ranging from paid apps, to subscriptions, to in-app purchases.

Even though it appears that Apple has reverted many of the ranking algorithm changes it introduced two weeks ago, many older applications and games for both the iPhone and iPad devices have resurfaced on the top charts.
