62 Ideas For Using The iPad In The Classroom [Presentation] - If you’ve got a pulse, using the iPad in the classroom is something you’re at least interested in on some level. It’s either why you’re here, something you want to understand better, or you loathe it all and want to make sure to avoid it (it’s been interesting to watch the seemingly growing throngs of Luddites decry learning technology–who knew it all could be so polarizing?) But we digress. Some of the ideas for using the iPad in the classroom in the following presentation by scribd user denag33 are better than others.

Projecting an image, making music, controlling your classroom computer, using it as a mini-whiteboard, accessing information, keeping notes, blogging, tracking an IEP checklist, making an impromptu teleprompter, and creating concept maps are some of the better ones. Some of the presentation is a bit janky as well–illegible text, for starters–but the inclusion of both apps and ideas together, along with the sheer number of ideas, made it worth sharing.

True learning is creative! … iPad, please! | IPAD 4 SCHOOLS. The iPad empowers students to create products within any subject context, physical space and even on the move. This is why the iPad is so important in transforming education into a genuine learning experience, not a knowledge absorption space. New iPad App May Be The Future Of Collaborative Online Learning. One of the biggest problems many people have with Khan Academy and YouTube Edu is simply the format. It’s not the fault of Khan or YouTube … it’s just that the passive video format is just that. It’s passive. Khan and others are introducing more interactive technology that acts as an added level of learning to the lessons but no one has nailed it quite yet.

A San Francisco-based startup called Net Power & Light Inc. wants to change that. And they’re working with one of the most popular ( in terms of YouTube views at least ) Harvard professors to show off what they can do. Net’s software is called ‘ Spin ‘ which essentially turns passive video watching into interactive group learning. Right now, Spin lets you remix and interact with content from Harvard, Stanford, TED, and the National Geographic Channel. “Teachers felt web-based learning wasn’t giving them the full experience,” Tara Lemmey, Net Power & Light’s co-founder and chief executive officer, said in an interview. Someone at a counter will tell me what to do, so I can turn off and just go with it.” On entering the terminal, we found self check-in kiosks and one distinctly disinterested attendant hiding behind a counter at the far end of the hall. We struggled through the process – our first encounter with such a system – telling each other what to do, making a simple process much harder than it really needed to be. We tend to rely on what we know as one way to manage demands on our time. This anecdote serves as an illustration of an important realization made at this stage of our journey with iPads in learning at Redlands College .

One of the things that really excites me about the iPad is the ability of the students to show their learning. I am not talking about the end product here, I am talking about the act of learning that can be shown by students recording their processes. It is often about the student putting the information they have learnt into a context. It is this contextualisation that helps the students create meaning. Here is a perfect example from a young 1st grade student who talks us through his investigation into transport. This example was shown on a recent school visit as one way a student could document their own learning.

This is where we really see the mechanics of a student's learning and how this can be individual for each student and in the case of a tool like the iPad, individualised for each student.
