While television can be a wonderful educational tool, too much TV—or the wrong type of shows—can be harmful to children. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children who watch a great deal of television on a regular basis may be at risk for obesity and aggressive behavior.

In fact, research suggests that the more time preschool children spend watching TV, the more likely they are to be overweight. Placing a television set in a child’s room also seems to further increase the likelihood that a child will become overweight. Other studies suggest that excessive TV watching may be associated with more problems with school, social skills, and attentiveness. For this reason, experts recommend that children younger than age two avoid TV altogether, and that those over two watch less than two hours of TV each day. Parents can help influence their children’s TV habits by reducing their own TV viewing. Diet TV. IntroPLAY Launches Community to Track Workouts. IntroPLAY is a new online community for physically active people that would like a way to track their progress and share information with others. They've launched their public beta earlier this week.

With introPLAY you can track your workouts and daily activity online. This data will be displayed on a calendar, and they offer graphical representations of what you're doing with your workouts. introPLAY also has introLEAGUES for you to join with other members of the community and compete against other teams for points. Your profile shows information like your current and desired health state while your Locker Room shows specific stats on your daily vitals, such has your weight and resting heart rate. introPLAY also has a forums section where the community can discuss topics regarding sports and workouts. Another site designed to help you track your personal progress is inPowr. Traineo Launches Social Network for Weight Loss. Traineo, which launched at the end of last week, is a new weight loss community. It combines a selection of weight loss tools and trackers (which can be kept private) with public profile pages, messaging and commenting.

It isn't a Friendster-style social network in the sense that you can't add copious amounts of friends - however, you can send a message and ask a user to add you to their contacts. You can also set up a slightly different type of friendship: members can identify themselves as "motivators" and help others to achieve their goals. You can find new motivators by messaging users on the site or inviting friends via email. The weight loss tools are neat, too - you can track your workouts, log the number of calories you consume (which would take a long time, since Traineo just redirects you to the USDA Food Database) and plot your stats on a graph.

Inpowr uses some basics from developmental psychology, life coaches and the World Health Organization to pinpoint the specific areas of your life that you may want to work on. Within broader scopes of environment, body, head, mind, relationships and accomplishments, Inpowr will give you an overview based on your responses to their 36-point questionnaire.

From here, Inpowr will give you the option of grouping together areas of your life you can work on so you can see how they’re interrelated. The tracking and cumulative aspects of Inpowr make this well suited for those that take a practical and visual approach to life improvement. Isagenix World Leader in Nutritional Cleansing. Video. Television and Children. Boehner: How Dare Obama Televise The Health Care Debate After I Demanded He Televise The Health Care Debate! After slamming the Obama administration for "secret deliberations" and going back on his campaign promise to televise the health care debate, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) criticized the President yesterday for televising the bipartisan health care summit on Feb. 25, asking "is this a political event or is this going to be a real conversation?

" Boehner had been a rather vocal supporter of C-SPAN's request to televise the earlier negotiations, writing to the network in January that "House Republicans strongly endorse your proposal and stand ready to work with you to make it a reality. " Well now, it seems, the idea of televising the health care summit has Boehner a bit squeamish.

Last night, Fox News' Greta Van Susteren asked him what he thinks about the fact that it's going to be televised, and added that "the American people are probably delighted that we're getting this televised. " Boehner said "well, that's fine," but he doesn't "want to walk into some set-up. " Television and Brain Health. Videos. One area in the ever evolving discussion of green topics that is often overlooked is the link between our dietary choices and the environment. Assembly-line meat factories consume enormous amounts of energy, pollute water supplies, generate significant greenhouse gases and require ever-increasing amounts of corn, soy and other grains, a dependency that has led to the destruction of vast swaths of the world’s tropical rain forests.Connect the dots; the diet that leads to so many chronic degenerative diseases is also destroying the planet.
