Ohio's State Tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Why do students take state tests?
State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio’s Learning Standards. These tests help guide and strengthen future teaching so we can be sure that we are preparing our students for long-term success in school, college, careers and life. Test results also allow citizens to know how their local schools are performing compared to others around the state. 2016-2017 Testing Dates. Each school district chooses a consecutive series of school days to administer state tests within specified windows, or periods of time.
Ohio’s State Tests in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies Grade 3 English language arts – Five consecutive school days, including makeups, within the Nov. 7 to 18 window High school end-of-course tests – Ten consecutive school days, including makeups, within the Dec. 5 to Jan. 13 window Districts may download fall grade 3 ELA results beginning Dec. 30 from the Online Reporting System. Districts may download fall high school end-of-course test results beginning Feb. 27 from the Online Reporting System. 2017-2018 Testing Dates. Also included are links to item analysis reports of Ohio's public schools indicating how many students answered various test questions, how many answered correctly and other data for Ohio’s tests. Item analysis data are not provided for OGTs administered in 2010 and beyond because the test items are not released. FAQs about Ohio State Tests. What are the requirements for students to retake the state end-of-course tests?
Students may retake any Ohio end-of-course state test throughout their academic careers during any given administration period that the state offers. If the district is unable to provide an opportunity to retake the exam during a state test window, the district should make arrangements with a neighboring district. Retake opportunities include: Fall block administration; Spring administration; and Summer administration (if offered). A student will use the higher score of any end-of-course test taken for meeting graduation requirements.
The district or school determines the remediation the student needs based on the level of proficiency and student-level data.
