The infographic shows that 71% of Internet users visit video-sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo. This number has shot up from just 33% in 2006. The graphic also shows interesting demographic stats like the fact that minorities and people with kids are more likely to visit video sites. Perhaps the most surprising part of the infographic is that the stats seem to be similar across multiple demographics. For example, gender, household income and education level all have little impact on the amount of time spent visiting video sites.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term ‘The Alive Web’, it was coined by Om Malik of GigaOM earlier this year. The term refers to the fact that these days the web is coming alive, with addictive and fun social apps and sites that let you experience the online world in a setting that is “like being in a club—part of an ever-changing visage, a canvas painted in real time.”

Malik said, “The immersive web is one that’s alive.” ‘The Alive Web: The New Era of Social Communication & Entertainment’ explores the Alive Web from the video chat side of things, stacking up Facebook Chat, Google Hangout, Tinychat and Rounds and comparing them in terms of user base, features, overall enjoyment and more.
