Maison des Centraliens reopened to the public in May with a slick interior that turns this ornate, Second Empire townhouse (and former home of a Viennese princess) into a monument to the headscrewy Belgian surrealism for which Maison Martin Margiela earned its fashion-world star. The kitchen and connecting stairwell have been given a completely contemporary look thanks to the geometric cut outs that are scattered about the kitchen area. Also the use of the light woods paired with the black and white give a warmth to the space that’s rather nice.

It’s also nice to see a bit of whimsy in a space like this. I know I can get caught up on this super minimal vibe sometimes, and while I think this apartment fits that same feeling, the cut outs make it something unique and not boring.
