http://www.flor.com/blog/ From years and years of *living small*, I certainly know how it feels to make a space work in both form and function. I also know how it feels to, well, just not feel right or work sometimes too. Echo Park, CA couple – Makato Mitzutani and Ben Luddy – knows how that feels too. Instead of just editing their items or design cycling their space, they began creating thoughtfully designed furniture and decor that worked efficiently in their small space dwelling. Thus, Scout Regalia (their design company) was born. Through their own *everyday living in 650 square feet*, the couple can identify what they need in terms of products for their space, why it’s missing in their small space and materials and extra design styles that make sense.

http://www.ikeahackers.net/2011/08/expedit-breakfast-bar-desk.html Materials: One 2x4 EXPEDIT, One VIKA AMON 59" Table, 6 of 1.5" L-brackets Description: The goal for this project was originally to create a new computer desk for the apartment using the " Wall of EXPEDIT " hack. However, after putting the VIKA AMON table on top of the EXPEDIT we figured that the table was just too big for a lonely iMac. Since we have a sunken living room we figured why not just center the table on the EXPEDIT to create a breakfast bar on one side and desk on the other, essentially doubling the usable space.

Century Finds is a great online resource for contemporary design and vintage decor, and I’m proud to have them as one of my blog’s sponsors. Sophie, the owner, says, “ My love of vintage items started as a child in the ’70s , uncovering discarded housewares in chests and closets all around our home. Later, I spent many happy hours in the flea markets of Paris and London. I started Century Finds as a way to share some of those unique little found items which can ‘make’ a room.” http://hookedonhouses.net/2010/02/24/hang-a-chair-on-your-wall-why-dont-you/

The amazing Invisible Self Shelf isn't a shelf at all ll it's a fake book that attaches securely to any wall. Because the Self Shelf is easily strong enough to bear the weight of a large number of volumes, you can stack your books so that they look like they're floating on air. The title of the fake book that makes up the shelf is Ceci n'est pas un livre ('this is not a book')! http://www.dutchbydesign.com/productlistaspPriceUnder15/products-Selfshelf_443.htm

sneak peek: karen barlow | Design*Sponge

http://www.designsponge.com/2010/06/sneak-peek-karen-barlow.html karen barlow is a freelance interior designer and still life props stylist based in manchester, england. thirteen years ago she and her husband chris bought this 1879 victorian house. despite not having heat, two gross kitchens, undesirable bathrooms, and the fact that the home had been stripped and converted into two flats in the 1970s, they were able to see the true potential beneath the less than perfect facade. we hope you enjoy this beautiful sneak peek (and fantastic wallpapers) as much as we did! don’t miss the full post after the jump, and additional images here . {thanks so much, karen!} - anne {photos by Eleri Griffiths and James White }
The space under the stairs at Tilly’s cottage used to be the coal storage — I’ve been told that you would literally have a guy who came down the lanes with a horse and cart and shovel coal from an access point outside into the coal storage which was typically under the stairs of the house. While there’s no coal under the stairs at the moment, the space has never been used for any other purpose so the remnants of coal dust still remain. I’ve been thinking about creative uses for the space and thought I’d share a few ideas I’ve come across in my research. I always have dreams that I, magically, find more space in my house — and this is no exception. I’m thinking craft room…

Philosophy: believe in miracles. I would have been selfish not to believe in miracles, it’s difficult to acknowledge the existence of two words ‘believe’ and ‘miracle’ implemented in an intuitive manner, especially when it comes to beauty and health products, not all works. The beauty in science is still evolving and developing around us chemically and organically, ingredient speaks for mathematical formula, formula speaks for effectiveness and effectiveness speaks for evaluation. Result? Skeptical or not, who knows. This is my philosophy.

Homemaker homeware is something of a mid-century classic, sold on the high street in the 1950s (most notably, in the now-departed Woolworths), it was cheap and cheerful at the time, but is now sought-after by anyone who wants something period and kitsch for their tea and cake. If you don't believe us, check eBay for some price estimates. Which makes Yoyomaker all the more appealing.

Sometime last year I noticed work had begun on an empty storefront on Washington Avenue in my neighborhood of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. My curiosity piqued— Man, please let it be something cool and not another boring real estate office —I was encouraged when I saw a blue and white polka dot awning go up, with a cheeky name: The Winey Neighbor . A wine shop with a sense of humor?
