Google is announcing today that websites that are optimized for mobile will now factor into ad quality.
The company says that last year it began to limit ad serving on smartphone devices if they pointed to landing pages with Flash-heavy content, in order to improve the experience for users. Now the search giant will be considering the mobile optimization of a website as a new factor of mobile ads quality for all AdWords campaigns that are driving mobile traffic. As a result of this change, ads that have mobile optimized landing pages will perform better in AdWords and drive more traffic. The core guidelines for landing page quality apply across devices (on desktop and on mobile) but this consideration will only affect AdWords on mobile devices. But what's the right way to use them? What are best practices? I want to share what ours are in hopes of more people executing better QR code campaigns and projects. Keep these 7 rules in mind when utilizing QR codes to enhance your business. Not sure what a QR code is? 1. QR codes can be printed in many different sizes. If your QR code links to contact info, only put what's absolutely necessary. 2. If you're creating something awesome, you should make it easy to spread. 3. Since you can, why not set up tracking. 4. This may sound simple, but it must be said. 5. So you print a QR code on a sign inside your store or you put it on a flyer. 6. QR codes are great, but they are only the door to more engaging content (eg. a website). 7. At the end of the day, be creative.

Although adaptation has been relatively slow and somewhat cumbersome, people are beginning to see the wealth of opportunities that QR codes offer. From billboards to print advertisements, QR codes have been steadily becoming a consistent addition to communications across various mediums. Personally, I’ve been using them on my business cards for some time – and I always seem to get funny looks when handing them out to people. I have a duo of QR codes – one leading to my resume (hosted as a Google Doc), and one that leads to my LinkedIn profile.
