Uzès est qualifiée de premier duché de France, ce titre n’étant lié au duché qu'en raison de l'ordre de préséance dans la hiérarchie de la noblesse, attribuée au duc d'Uzès en 1632 par Louis XIII, alors roi de France. Le titre était lié à l'homme et non à ses terres. Elle est la ville principale de l'Uzège.
