The Integral Operating System. Part I: Overview

In the past, if you were born, say, a Chinese, you likely spent your entire life in one culture, often in one province, sometimes in one house, living and loving and dying on one small plot of land. But today, not only are people geographically mobile, we can study, and have studied, virtually every known culture on the planet. In the global village, all cultures are exposed to each other. Knowledge itself is now global. What if we took literally everything that all the various cultures have to tell us about human potential—about spiritual growth, psychological growth, social growth—and put it all on the table? Sound complicated, complex, daunting? Welcome to the Integral Model. An Integral or Comprehensive Map What are these 5 elements? What is the point of using this Integral Map or Model? How the best teams solve problems

Imagine a string quartet performing a piece of music. They all share a common goal, and they each know the part they have to play. But in order to perfect their performance, they must be attuned to what their colleagues are doing and respond to it in the right way. They must listen as well as play, so they can engage with the task as a group as well as individually.

We can see a similar dynamic in workplace groups such as product-development teams. Most previous research has focused on what a team as a whole needs to succeed: clearly defined goals, the right skills, a way to resolve conflicts and proper support. To learn more about the way team members solve problems, we studied two software development projects, both in the same Fortune 500 company, called ‘Shield’ and ‘Gateway’. To maximize your complex teams’ effectiveness, construct a basis for collaboration in your company.

When executives, HR professionals, and team leaders all pitch in to apply these practices, complex teams hit the ground running—the day they’re formed. How Creativity Works': It's All In Your Imagination

What gives some of us the ability to create work that captivates the eyes, minds and hearts of others? Jonah Lehrer, a writer specializing in neuroscience, addresses that question in his new book, Imagine: How Creativity Works. Lehrer defines creativity broadly, considering everything from the invention of masking tape to breakthroughs in mathematics; from memorable ad campaigns to Shakespearean tragedies. He finds that the conditions that favor creativity — our brains, our times, our buildings, our cities — are equally broad. Lehrer joins NPR's Robert Siegel to talk about the creative process — where great ideas come from, how to foster them, and what to do when you inevitably get stuck.
