Fellows' vintage jewellery auction breaks £115k. This garnet necklace sold for 15 times is lower estimate at Fellows' vintage jewellery auction this week. By Jessica Knowles Fellows welcomed unusually high prices at its auction of Vintage Jewellery & Accessories on June 10, with lots selling for a total £115,125 on the day. The Birmingham-based auction house said many items sold above and beyond their estimates due to competition from bidders in the saleroom, on the telephones and online. The auction featured more than 1,000 lots and attracted more than 500 online bidders from around the world. Fellows’ vintage specialist, Louise Ludlam said that the results reflect the increasing demand for unique jewellery and the growing obsession with “all things vintage”. Fellows said the most surprising sale of the day was a 19th century foil-backed garnet necklace that had an estimated of £250 to £350 but went under the hammer for £3,900 after a rush of bids, 15 times its lowest estimate.
