Secret US Court Order demands email data for WikiLeaks volunteer Jacob Appelbaum – Boing Boing
WASHINGTON — US authorities have obtained a secret court order to force search giant Google and a small Internet provider to hand over information from email accounts of a volunteer for whistleblower website WikiLeaks, a report said. The Wall Street Journal, citing documents it had reviewed, said the Internet service provider Sonic had been forced to turn over the data from the email of Wikileaks volunteer Jacob Appelbaum. Sonic said it resisted the order but lost the legal battle, and had to pass on the information on email addresses Appelbaum had corresponded with over the past two years, according to the Journal.

O ne day after being detained at the Canadian border trying to enter Washington State, Jacob Appelbaum jokes about writing the first Yelp reviews of all of our nation's airport detention areas. "Two thumbs up my ass ," he quips, referring to the invasive welcome he gets every time he reenters the country. But Appelbaum's bravado belies an angst that might seem paranoid if it weren't justified.

The archive spans a 6-year period from 2004 to 2010, encompassing more than 91,000 documents and 200,000 pages.
