The Basis Project – Building and sustaining success | Fundraising | 1. Developing a fundraising strategy. Online toolkits > Fundraising > 1. Developing a fundraising strategy Your organisation’s fundraising strategy should be based on the business plan – i.e. the activities you plan to undertake and how much they will cost.Your fundraising strategy should explain: What your organisation wants to do (aims and objectives) Why your organisation wants to do it (the need) Who will benefit What will happen if nothing is done (i.e. the effect on the community) When your organisation wants to do it (timeframe) how much it will cost (budget) How your organisation plans to raise the money Who is responsible for doing what (tasks) What funding is already secured. While this should help clarify your thinking and enable you to plan fundraising activity, don’t feel that the strategy can’t be changed. It’s important to modify the document to reflect changes in circumstance or priorities. This page is a summary of information contained in the full online toolkit.

Click here to download the episode. The guest for this episode is Kelly Hogan, head of the Mother Earth School in Portland, Oregon and an instructor for the Advanced Teacher Training in Youth and Child Permaculture Education.

Kelly explains, from place as a Waldorf teacher, how she operates the Mother Earth School program while guiding children throughout the year in an outdoor environment. She also shares a rough telling, which turns out beautifully, of a story she is working on, and also discusses the Advanced Permaculture Teacher Training in Teaching Children and Youth Permaculture, which she teaches alongside her partner Matt Bibeau and Patty Parks-Wasserman. During our conversation I kept thinking of Richard Louv, his book Last Child in the Woods, and the idea of Nature Deficit Disorder. That lead to further research on my part while editing this show.
