Joining OGP means committing the Irish government to a national public consultation with representatives of all society groups and to the development of an Action Plan that sets concrete commitments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. OGP – Ireland campaign hash tag: #ogpIRL No, it is not. Why now? We value: Montreal tuition protesters defy law and clash with police - Montreal. About 300 people were arrested and 20 were injured during overnight protests in Montreal in defiance of Quebec's contentious Bill 78, which cracks down on student-stoked demonstrations sparked by the province's proposed tuition hikes. Ten police officers and 10 civilians suffered minor injuries in the latest protest. One person was taken to hospital with a serious head injury that emergency services called "non-life-threatening.

" Just before midnight on Sunday, about 5,000 people gathered in the streets in the heart of the city's Latin Quarter, alternating between cacophonous cheering and chanting. "Devrait pas nous fâcher," they yelled — "You shouldn't get us mad. " For the 27th night in a row in the city, marchers gathered near the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQÀM) and then headed to the heart of downtown. Police declared the demonstration illegal under the province's new student-crisis law, adopted Friday, as soon as it began around 9 p.m. Dozens arrested. Occupy, Los Indignados: towards radicalization? The polarisation that can be observed in recent elections in 2012, notably in Greece and in France for the first round of the Presidential elections, appears to also take place within some of the current Opposition Movements existing outside the classical party system. Those movements, Occupy and Democracia Real Ya! – also known as Los Indignados, born out of Spain’s mobilisation last year, are showing their continuing presence, notably with various protests staged on May Day, then between 12 and 15 May, more or less followed according to cities and countries.

A beginning of radicalization would, so far, touch more specifically the American Occupy movement. Already, in February and March, it gave rise to a debate on the tactics that should be used, as analysed by Stuart Jeanne Bramhall in “Debating Violence in the Occupy Movement.” In May 2012, Occupy still displays weak signals of rising tension, which could lead to escalation.

Will radicalization spread and intensify? Occupy Galway protest camp is being removed by gardaí. Migs. Shareholders protest at Barclays AGM: live | Business. 5.21pm: So I'm hearing that as well as F&C the likes of M&G, the fund management arm of Prudential, and Fidelity voted against the pay plans. And here's some reaction from Pirc, the investor advisory body. Alan MacDougall, managing director of Pirc , said: "This vote is humiliating for Barclays and will cement its reputation as a bank that just doesn't get it when it comes to concerns about excessive pay at the top. " "The government has proposed that in future companies that experience a 25% or greater vote against their remuneration report should issue a statement to the market setting out how they intend to specifically address shareholder concerns. Now that Barclays has seen the level of shareholder dissent it should do the right thing and issue such a statement setting out a specific response as quickly as possible.

" To put today's results in context, Pirc estimates that the average vote against a remuneration report in the All-Share in 2011 was approximately 6%. Pirc says: New Opposition Nexus. Since December 2010 with the “Arab Spring,” the world has become dimly aware that protests and demonstrations are now a common, everyday reality in many countries, even if this fact still tends to be very much downplayed. Earlier (weak?) Signals could be found with the French 2005 riots and 2006 students’ protests, with the 2007-2008 food riots, as well as with violence in Greece during the winter 2008-2009.

Fifteen countries, mainly in Asia and Africa were hit by the food riots. Since then, at least 20 countries (Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, U.S., UK, Yemen) have been the theaters of various types of protests with different kinds of escalations, while sporadic demonstrations also occurred elsewhere in the MENA countries, with the Arab Spring, in Latin America and Asia, following the Spanish Indignados and then Occupy. Each phase implied escalation in violence.

A few thoughts regarding #OccupyWallStreet. More than a structured post, here are a few thoughts regarding the #OccupyWallStreet movement, including the arrests in NYC on Saturday 24 September 2011, related effects on the treatment by media, and the articles and blogs I have read lately not only on this specific operation but also on linked previous movements and protests. Indeed, for this episode of the age-old struggle against those who hold the key to liquidity (cash), the origin of the idea to fight bankers and the power of markets can be traced back to the Spanish Manifesto of the Indignados (published at the latest by May 17 2011), and to the recent events in Iceland. It is good that mainstream media start paying attention to what is happening, but, as previously underlined, where were they in May, June, etc. for Spain, Greece, and the various movements that started then, not only Europe but also throughout America?

It seems that an interesting – still – low key struggle is emerging, at the level of ideas and legitimacy. OWS GUT CHECK. Hey you nimble dreamers, believers and jammer tacticians out there, Our movement has reemerged from winter hibernation to find that this spring we are different but so too is the political and tactical situation. Occupy now faces a series of existential challenges that will define the month of May and set the tone for our long-term future. #1 challenge: Jump over the corporate media It took the New York Times two weeks last year to wake up to the insurrection percolating in their own backyard.

This May Day, we saw an insidious attempt to ignore and discredit us right across the mainstream media. Time to jam the corpo-commercial lie machine and shift the way information flows and meaning is produced. “I know. . #2 challenge: Block the co-optation of our movement Last September, the old left didn’t want to touch us. “This is an election year. . #3 challenge: Occupy the future Our most difficult task of all is to describe, build and sustain the post-capitalist future we want to live in. Occupy Wall Street Plans Global Disruption of Status Quo May 1.

Occupy Wall Street demonstrators, whose anti-greed message spread worldwide during an eight-week encampment in Lower Manhattan last year, plan marches across the globe today calling attention to what they say are abuses of power and wealth. Organizers say they hope the coordinated events will mark a spring resurgence of the movement after a quiet winter. Calls for a general strike with no work, no school, no banking and no shopping have sprung up on websites in Toronto, Barcelona, London, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney, among hundreds of cities in North America, Europe and Asia.

In New York, Occupy Wall Street will join scores of labor organizations observing May 1, traditionally recognized as International Workers’ Day. They plan marches from Union Square to Lower Manhattan and a “pop-up occupation” of Bryant Park on Sixth Avenue, across the street from Bank of America’s Corp.’s 55-story tower.

Filipino anti-riot police block Occupy protesters heading to camp out near Manila's... Close Open. An Open Letter to Our Comrades. From 3 anonymous OWS Occupiers in Chicago: On the eve of the feast of the cabal of hypocrites, otherwise referred to as the 2012 NATO Summit, the people of Chicago have undergone a grave injustice at the hands of the violent police state. The Chicago Police's actions today, May 19th, were a brutally violent attack on our bodies and on our rights. An absurdly large police force was deployed in order to intimidate and provoke a peaceable assembly, and resulted in unbridled, militaristic attacks on activists demonstrating against NATO, inflicting several serious injuries - including broken noses, bloodied eyes, and a particularly sickening incident in which a dedicated comrade was belligerently run down by a police van.

This national convergence represents an incredible and unique opportunity to bring together a diverse spectrum of activists in a unified front of resistance unlike any other seen in over a decade. Comrades. Let us take a deep, deep breath together. Solidarity forever. May Day – a day for all. On 1 May, people around the world will strike. They will demand their right to decent working conditions, secure employment and pensions.

This day is for all people. It isn’t just for workers lucky enough to have unions to represent them. It is for parents and carers whose work is often not seen as productive, for people forced into workfare schemes, for students whose only way to employment is unpaid internships, for those who can’t get their foot in the door of the workplace because of their nationality, gender, disabilities. This May Day, strike with your union if you have one. Occupy London will be out in support of events on the day and is be planning some actions of our own: This May Day Occupy London will be out in support of events on the day and is planning some actions of their own: Morning – Occupy the tube!

On the day, meet from 7am at the Finsbury Square occupation, or 8am at Liverpool Street Station. Expect other surprises around London too. 2.30pm onwards – Against Workfare. May Day Declaration of Solidarity. Legalize! Organize! Unionize! We want to be heard! We need to be heard! We will be heard! We are here to celebrate May Day. We are here to celebrate our power as people who have found unity of purpose. We are here to decry the rampant growth of social, political and economic inequality. Recall that for over a century May Day has been a time when the stirrings of spring lead people of good will towards visions of revolutionary renewal. We the people, including organized and unorganized workers, employed and unemployed, public and private, documented and undocumented, here, today, re-commit ourselves to being in solidarity with all people of the world.

We are here to announce that "Another world is not only possible, but is on her way. " Let freedom spring! ¡Si se puede! Real Democracy Now: global map – date as on map. The Road to May 12th. Designers and graphists support the Global Revolution @ Voces con futura On 19 June, Take the Square, a web-platform relaying regional and national information on and calls from the various Real Democracy Now movements, is calling for the official start of a global peaceful revolution – shortened as twitter’s category as #globalrevolution – expressed through a worldwide demonstration.

The Real Democracy Now movements, as has been explained by a few blog posts (e.g. Laura Gutierrez; Leila Nachawati Rego; Asteris Masouras; Martin Varsavsky) have started “officially” on May 15 in Spain and are inspired not only by the Arab (Winter-)Spring but also by the Icelandic “revolution.” First and foremost, those movements are an answer to actions by political systems that are perceived by citizens as increasingly illegitimate.

The existence of so many alternative hypotheses is sufficient to let us consider that the #Europeanrevolutions and #Globalrevolution are most likely weak signals. (2) #12M15M - Let’s take the streets on May 12th. We are the 99% Browse Cases | Global Nonviolent Action Database.
