The Colbert Report ( pron.: / k oʊ l ˈ b ɛr r ə ˈ p ɔr / kohl- BAIR rə- POR ) is an American satirical late night television program that airs Monday through Thursday on Comedy Central .
The Colbert Report , which premiered in American cable television on October 17, 2005, has had a cultural impact since its inception, when the show introduced truthiness as a word. Issues in and references to American and world culture are attributed to the character played by Stephen Colbert , who calls his followers the Colbert Nation. The flag of the Colbert Nation is a 5 cornered star. [ edit ] Congressional response In response to the "Better Know a District" segment, Rahm Emanuel , then the Democratic Caucus chair, instructed incoming freshmen not to do appearances on the show. The Rev. Sir Doctor Sen. Stephen T. Mos Def Colbert, D.F.A., Heavyweight Champion of the World**, Ph.D is the persona of political satirist Stephen Colbert , as portrayed on Comedy Central 's The Colbert Report . Described as a "well-intentioned, poorly informed high-status idiot" [ 1 ] and a "self-important right-wing commentator ," [ 2 ] the character incorporates aspects of the real Colbert's life and interests but is primarily a parody of cable news pundits , particularly Fox News ' Bill O'Reilly . [ 3 ]
Edit Storyline An, offshoot of The Daily Show, The Colbert Report (the Ts in Colbert and in Report are silent) is a parody of shows like "The O'Reilly Factor." Colbert begins the show with teasers about the show's content and then the credits go by, with a giant eagle and the stars and stripes featured predominantly. Colbert will pepper commentaries with phrases like, "Look, I don't have time to read books," or, "President Bush isn't a head thinker, he's a gut thinker." Aspects of talking head programs are exaggerated and Colbert presents a host overwhelmed by his own importance.
